Klebsiella bacteraemia: community versus nosocomial infection [PDF]

open access: yesQJM, 1996
In the period 1988-1993, 241 patients had Klebsiella bacteraemia at our medical centre. The annual number of patients with positive blood cultures increased from 306 in 1988 to 622 in 1993, representing a 4.5-6% positivity rate of drawn cultures. After E. coli, Klebsiella was the leading cause of Gram-negative bacteraemia.

Klebsiella species: Taxonomy, hypervirulence and multidrug resistance

open access: yesEBioMedicine, 2022
Summary: Members of the genus Klebsiella have rapidly evolved within the past decade, generating organisms that simultaneously exhibit both multidrug resistance and hypervirulence (MDR-hv) phenotypes; such organisms are associated with severe hospital ...

Cure of recurring Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae septic shock episodes due to complicated soft tissue infection using a ceftazidime and avibactam-based regimen: a case report

open access: yesJournal of Medical Case Reports, 2019
Background Infections caused by multidrug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae are hard to treat and life-threatening due to reduced therapeutic options. Systemic infections caused by Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strains ...

Epidemiology of intensive care unit-acquired sepsis in Italy: results of the SPIN-UTI network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: Sepsis is the major cause of mortality from any infectious disease worldwide. Sepsis may be the result of a healthcare associated infection (HAI): the most frequent adverse events during care delivery especially in Intensive Care Units ...

Persistent systemic microbial translocation, inflammation, and intestinal damage during Clostridioides difficile infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Background. Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) might be complicated by the development of nosocomial bloodstream infection (n-BSI). Based on the hypothesis that alteration of the normal gut integrity is present during CDI, we evaluated markers of ...

SIDEROPHORE RECEPTOR PROTEIN FROM KLEBSIELLA PNEUMONIAE AS A PROMISING IMMUNOGEN FOR SEROTYPE-INDEPENDENT THERAPEUTIC LEAD DEVELOPMENT

open access: yesInternational Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2023
Intro: Klebsiella pneumoniae causes wide range of infections including urinary tract infections, sepsis, bacteremia, pneumonia and liver abscesses. The emergence of multi drug resistance in this bacterium led to a major setback for clinical management ...

Antibiotic prophylaxis is associated with subsequent resistant infections in children with an initial extended-spectrum-cephalosporin-resistant Enterobacteriaceae infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The objective of this study was to assess the association between previous antibiotic use, particularly long-term prophylaxis, and the occurrence of subsequent resistant infections in children with index infections due to extended-spectrum-cephalosporin ...

European intensive care physicians’ experience of infections due to antibiotic-resistant bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Background Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) compromises the treatment of patients with serious infections in intensive care units (ICUs), and intensive care physicians are increasingly facing patients with bacterial infections with limited or no adequate ...
