Exercise for osteoarthritis of the knee
2008Biomechanical factors, such as reduced muscle strength and joint malalignment, have an important role in the initiation and progression of knee osteoarthritis (OA). Currently, there is no known cure for OA; however, disease-related factors, such as impaired muscle function and reduced fitness, are potentially amenable to therapeutic exercise. To ...

Anteromedial osteoarthritis of the knee
The Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1991Medial tibial plateaux excised during 46 unicompartmental arthroplasties for osteoarthritis were collected and photographed. The anterior cruciate ligament was intact in all joints. In every case the cartilage and bone erosion was centred anteriorly on the plateau and the posterior cartilage was intact.

Obesity and knee osteoarthritis
Inflammopharmacology, 2012The association between obesity and knee osteoarthritis, and specifically the role of obesity as a risk factor for knee osteoarthritis has been well documented. A systematic review and meta-analysis by Blagojevic et al. in Osteoarthr Cartil 18(1):24-33, (2010) examined 36 papers reporting on BMI and found that all studies demonstrated obesity and being

The Meniscus in Knee Osteoarthritis
Rheumatic Disease Clinics of North America, 2009The meniscus is a critical tissue in the healthy knee joint because of its shock absorption and load distribution properties. Meniscal damage is a frequent finding on MRI of the osteoarthritis (OA) knee. The damage appears as horizontal, flap, or complex tears; meniscal maceration; or destruction.

Pathomechanics of knee osteoarthritis
Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise, 1994Osteoarthritis of the knee is not only common, but is also responsible for a significant amount of disability in the aging population. Although the exact etiology of this disease process is not known, osteoarthritis has been well described. The primary site affected by osteoarthritis is the articular cartilage.

Imaging of knee osteoarthritis
Best Practice & Research Clinical Rheumatology, 2008New imaging modalities are broadening the possibilities in osteoarthritis (OA) research, and are offering new insights to help better understand the pathogenesis of this disease. Although knee radiographs are widely employed in epidemiological and clinical studies to assess structural pathology, joint radiographs provide limited outcome measures in ...

Surgery for Osteoarthritis of the Knee
Rheumatic Disease Clinics of North America, 2008The role of surgical treatment in osteoarthritis of the knee continues to evolve. The indications for arthroscopy have narrowed. Exercise for knee osteoarthritis
Current Opinion in Rheumatology, 2000Adverse outcomes in knee osteoarthritis include pain, loss of function, and disability. These outcomes can have devastating effects on the quality of life of those suffering from the disease. Treatments have generally targeted pain, assuming that disability would improve as a direct result of improvements in pain.

Viscosupplementation for knee osteoarthritis
Journal of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2014To provide an overview of the diagnosis and pathophysiology of osteoarthritis (OA), and to describe appropriate treatments for knee OA, with a focus on the efficacy and safety of viscosupplementation. Because nurse practitioners (NPs) can inject viscosupplements, a section on injection technique is included.Manuscripts were identified using PubMed and ...
