TDA-DARKNet: A Deep Learning Model Based on Dual-Polarization Radar Data for Tornado Detection

open access: yesRemote Sensing
Tornado is a localized, small-scale severe convective weather phenomenon characterized by extreme destructiveness. Tornado detecting and warning mainly rely on Doppler weather radar, which identifies and tracks tornadoes by recognizing the tornado vortex

A Hybrid Hierarchical Framework for Quantifying Mechanical Markers in Atherosclerotic Disease Progression: A New Approach for Diagnosis and Risk Assessment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The mechanobiological basis of atherosclerotic progression and its contribution to spatial and temporal heterogeneity remain incompletely understood. Spatially resolved AFM measurements revealed that plaque formation and distinct regions (cap fibrosis, intimal fibrosis, and lipid‐rich core) exhibit heterogeneous elastic modulus and viscoelastic ...

Deep neural networks have an inbuilt Occam’s razor

open access: yesNature Communications
The remarkable performance of overparameterized deep neural networks (DNNs) must arise from an interplay between network architecture, training algorithms, and structure in the data. To disentangle these three components for supervised learning, we apply

Explaining the Origin of Negative Poisson's Ratio in Amorphous Networks With Machine Learning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Discovery, EarlyView.
This review summarizes how machine learning (ML) breaks the “vicious cycle” in designing auxetic amorphous networks. By transitioning from traditional “black‐box” optimization to an interpretable “AI‐Physics” closed‐loop paradigm, ML is shown to not only discover highly optimized structures—such as all‐convex polygon networks—but also unveil hidden ...

Exploiting Ferroelectric and Spintronic Dynamics for Neural Network Computation

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric and spintronic devices, relying on the control of polarization and magnetization, offer intrinsically fast, durable, energy‐efficient, and low‐latency building blocks for analog in‐memory computing. The hysteretic dynamics of an order parameter are leveraged to provide nonvolatile, multistate memory and nonlinear switching. Brain‐inspired

Evaluation of therapeutic effects of D‐limonene following orchiopexy in the rat model of cryptorchidism

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
D‐limonene supplementation enhances testicular recovery following orchiopexy in a rat model of bilateral cryptorchidism. Treatment with D‐limonene reduces oxidative stress (↓MDA, ↑SOD, ↑GPx, ↑TAC), downregulates pro‐apoptotic proteins (↓TNF‐α, ↓BAX, ↓Caspase‐3), and upregulates anti‐apoptotic Bcl‐2 expression.

Early synovial regulatory T cell engagement in posttraumatic osteoarthritis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, Accepted Article.
Objective Posttraumatic osteoarthritis (PTOA) develops despite restoration of joint biomechanics, suggesting that early post‐injury biological processes within the synovium shape disease trajectories. We investigated whether synovial regulatory T (Treg) cells are engaged during the early phase following joint injury and whether experimental enrichment ...

Algorithmic Cross-Complexity and Relative Complexity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Information content and compression are tightly related concepts that can be addressed by classical and algorithmic information theory. Several entities in the latter have been defined relying upon notions of the former, such as entropy and mutual ...
