Topological Kondo Effect

2020
We review recent theoretical progress in the understanding of the topological Kondo effect in Coulomb-blockaded Majorana devices and generalizations thereof. The central ingredient in Majorana devices is the so-called Majorana box which encodes a spin-1/2 degree of freedom in the Majorana subspace that can be addressed by electron cotunneling processes.

Kondo “proximity” effect

Physica B: Condensed Matter, 1994
Abstract We have studied the Kondo effect in bilayer structures in which the bottom film is composed of the Kondo alloy Au(Fe), while the top film is the nonmagnetic host Au. We find that the Kondo contribution to the resistivity of the Au(Fe) is enhanced by the presence of the Au.

Kondo-lattice: Kondo-effect?

Zeitschrift fr Physik B Condensed Matter and Quanta, 1979
The periodics-d-model is investigated by Green function methods. We find that the lnT-divergence appearing in third order perturbation theory for the electron selfenergy is smoothed out but still shows up in a characteristic decrease (exchange couplingγ 0) of lifetime of electrons at the fermi level asT→0 and a corresponding structure in the specific ...

Kondo effect in disordered systems

Physical Review Letters, 1992
We consider a system of dilute magnetic impurities placed in a disordered metal, and examine the modifications of the Kondo temperature T k due to the presence of disorder. Our calculations, based on a slave-boson approach, show that the probability distribution P(T k ) for Kondo temperatures can be related to the local-density-of-states fluctuations ...

Alloying effects of Kondo insulators

Physical Review B, 1994
The effects of nonmagnetic impurities (Kondo holes) in Kondo insulators (KI's) are studied based on the U=\ensuremath{\infty} Anderson model in the framework of a slave-boson mean-field theory under the coherent-potential approximation (CPA). The density of states for f electrons and its variation with the concentration of Kondo holes are calculated ...

Nonuniversality in the Kondo effect

Physical Review Letters, 1992
We have analytically evaluated, up to fourth order, all logarithmic terms in the perturbation expansion of the magnetization scrM for the Kondo model. All nonlogarithmic terms have been evaluated up to third order. When these results are compared with the claimed universal function scrM(H/${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{H}}$) calculated with the Bethe ansatz ...

Kondo effect in gapless superconductors

Physical Review B, 1992
We present a self-consistent theory of Kondo impurities in gapless unconventional superconductors valid in the Fermi-liquid regime T\ensuremath{\lesssim}${\mathit{T}}_{\mathit{K}}$. The impurity degrees of freedom are treated using the large-N slave-boson technique, leading to tractable equations describing the interplay between the Kondo effect and ...

The Kondo effect inZnMn

Journal of Low Temperature Physics, 1971
The magnetic susceptibility of Zn alloys containing 7.6–182 ppm Mn were measured in the range 1.4–4.2 K. The zero-field susceptibility can be described by a Curie-Weiss law with a concentration-independent intercept on the temperature axis, which yields a Kondo temperatureT K =0.24 K.

Kondo effect and localization

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1983
Abstract Interplay between the Kondo effect and localization is examined. Susceptibility and conductivity are shown to have corrections proportional to λJ2ln2(l/t) and λJ3/t, respectively, in two dimension where λ = ℏh/2π∈Fτt = ℏh/2πτkT. The ground state is discussed to be singlet or Ising-like doublet as in pure systems even when electrons are ...

CRYSTAL FIELD EFFECTS IN KONDO SYSTEMS

Journal of Magnetism and Magnetic Materials, 1987
Abstract We compare our recent exact results on a Coqblin-Schrieffer model with crystal fields with specific heat measurements on (LaCe)B 6 . We confirm the postulated 0.1 meV splitting of the Γ 8 ground state into two doublets.
