This is a popular review of some recent investigations of the Kondo effect in a variety of mesoscopic systems. After a brief introduction, experiments are described where a scanning tunneling microscope measures the surroundings of a magnetic impurity on a metal surface.

Abstract Catecholamines are classically viewed as neuronal transmitters and adrenal hormones; however, accumulating evidence demonstrates that sources other than nerve fibres and adrenal medulla play a fundamental role in local organ regulation. Physiological paradoxes, such as preserved organ function after denervation or transplantation, challenge a ...

MAP 17 is identified as highly expressed in TMZ‐resistant glioblastoma‐initiating cells (GICs). MAP17 enhances GIC proliferation, TMZ resistance, and tumorigenicity through NF‐κB/RELA‐dependent BCL2 upregulation. ABSTRACT Glioblastoma (GBM) is the most common malignant brain tumor in adults.

Additional energy scale in SmB6 at low-temperature
Many discrepancies exist to question the nature of the candidate topological Kondo insulator, SmB6. Here, Jiao et al. observe in-gap states on well characterized (001) surfaces of SmB6, indicating a suppression of the Kondo effect at surface, which ...

Spin Relaxation in Kondo Lattice Systems with Anisotropic Kondo Interaction
© 2016 Springer Science+Business Media New YorkWe study the influence of the Kondo effect on the spin relaxation in systems with anisotropic Kondo interaction at temperatures both high and low as compared with the static magnetic field. In the absence of

A whole‐exome sequencing–based mutational signature biomarker (MSBM) identified an HRD‐enriched population in advanced ovarian cancer. In a phase II trial, olaparib maintenance suggested clinically meaningful PFS benefit without bevacizumab, supporting MSBM as a complementary HRD assessment approach.

Kondo effect in a one-dimensional
We derive a solvable resonant-level–type model, to describe an impurity spin coupled to zero-energy bound states localized at the edge of a one-dimensional d-wave superconductor.

Schematic overview of progression from differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) to anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC). ATC primarily develops via two pathways: the BRAF p.V600E‐mutated papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) pathway and the RAS‐mutated pathway. The origin and progression of BRAF/RAS‐wildtype ATC remain unclear.
