Unravelling Hidden Trophic Interactions Among Sea Urchin Juveniles and Macroinvertebrates by DNA Amplification. [PDF]

open access: yesMol Ecol
ABSTRACT Rocky reefs may shift between two distinct stable states: productive algal forests, characterised by high abundance and biodiversity of macrofauna, and impoverished barrens, dominated by overgrazing sea urchins. Barren states may persist despite the recovery of adult sea urchin predators, suggesting additional stabilising mechanisms.

Limited population genetic variation but pronounced seascape genetic structuring in populations of the Mediterranean mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis) from the eastern Adriatic Sea

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 13, Issue 1, January 2023., 2023
We investigated the genetic variation of the economically and ecologically important species the Mediterranean mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis) from 18 sites along the eastern Adriatic Sea, using six microsatellite loci. Population genetic analysis of variation at five neutral microsatellite loci revealed little or no spatial variation.

The Influence of Aquaculture and a Natural Environmental Gradient on Shell Landmark Variation of the Mediterranean Mussel (Mytilus galloprovincialis Lamarck, 1819) From the Eastern Adriatic Sea. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Morphol
We used geometric morphometry to identify shell landmark differentiation in the Mediterranean mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis across the eastern Adriatic Sea. The results revealed that an elongated shell shape was particularly characteristic of southern populations and those from environments with lower salinity concentrations.

Mapping small‐scale fisheries through a coordinated participatory strategy

open access: yesFish and Fisheries, Volume 23, Issue 4, Page 773-785, July 2022., 2022
Abstract The knowledge of small‐scale fisheries (SSFs) is important to develop management policies and mitigate the competition for marine resources. However, spatially explicit information is often unavailable at the regional and subregional scale.

1012. SENECIO SQUALIDUS: Compositae

open access: yesCurtis's Botanical Magazine, Volume 39, Issue 1, Page 113-134, March 2022., 2022
Summary The widespread Senecio squalidus L. (Compositae: Senecioneae: Senecioninae), a diploid hybrid species with strong self‐incompatibility, that originated in the British Isles within the last 300 years, is described and illustrated. The origins of this species are briefly outlined.

Trans‐species transmission of Brucellae among ruminants hampering brucellosis control efforts in Egypt

open access: yesJournal of Applied Microbiology, Volume 132, Issue 1, Page 90-100, January 2022., 2022
Abstract Aims This study aimed to identify the genotypic fingerprinting of Brucella melitensis biovar 3 isolates from ruminants in Kafr El‐Sheikh, Egypt, to compare with other peers globally and to highlight the epidemiology and potential causes of brucellosis control failure.

Application of Fuzzy Linguistic Rating and Entropy‐Based GRA to Address Uncertainty in Safety Performance Index Construction

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Transportation, Volume 2022, Issue 1, 2022., 2022
As the need to assess the level of road safety grows, there is a noticeable tendency of experts to use one overall composite index that contains information on a number of safety performance indicators (SPIs). Indicators commonly used in road safety assessment are numerical, and their natural uncertainty and vagueness are often overlooked.

Forging the Nation‐centric World: Imperial Rule and the Homogenisation of Discontent in Bosnia and Herzegovina (1878–1918)

open access: yesJournal of Historical Sociology, Volume 34, Issue 4, Page 665-687, December 2021., 2021
Abstract Historical sociologists have questioned the idea that nationalism and imperialism are mutually exclusive phenomena. In contrast to traditional historiography that depicted empires as ‘the prison houses of nations’ contemporary scholarship emphasises the structural and ideological ambiguities that characterised the 19th century European ...

Sustainable large‐scale production of European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) seed for ecological restoration and aquaculture: a review

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 13, Issue 3, Page 1423-1468, June 2021., 2021
Abstract The conservation and active restoration of European flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) populations are a major focus of ecological restoration efforts to take advantage of the wide‐ranging ecosystem functions and services this species provides. Accordingly, additional and new demands for seed oysters have arisen.
