Emergence of KPC new variants (KPC-16 and KPC-17) and ongoing outbreak in southern Taiwan

open access: yesClinical Microbiology and Infection, 2015
We first describe two novel variants of blaKPC, blaKPC-16 and blaKPC-17, which were identified in three Klebsiella pneumoniae isolates from a patient in Taiwan.

Large hospital outbreak of KPC-2-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae: investigating mortality and the impact of screening for KPC-2 with polymerase chain reaction

Journal of Hospital Infection, 2015
Multi-drug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase (KPC)-2-producing K. pneumoniae are an increasing cause of healthcare-associated infections worldwide. To investigate the impact of clinical infection on mortality, and examine the effect of use of KPC-2-specific polymerase chain reaction (PCR) on the time to contact isolation during an outbreak ...

Boronic acid inhibitors of the class A β-lactamase KPC-2

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, 2018
The rapid rise of antimicrobial resistance is one of the greatest challenges currently facing medical science. The most common cause of resistance to β-lactam antibiotics is the expression of β-lactamase enzymes, such as KPC-2. As such the development of novel inhibitors of KPC-2 and related enzymes is of the upmost importance. We report the design and

Enterobacteriaceae producing the KPC-2 carbapenemase from hospital sewage

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2012
Fifteen isolates with reduced susceptibility to meropenem were obtained from hospital sewage. They contained bla(KPC-2) and belonged to multiple clones of Citrobacter freundii or Enterobacter cloacae. bla(KPC-2) was commonly carried by self-transmissible plasmids with different EcoRI-restricted patterns. Tn2 was identified upstream of bla(KPC-2), while

Treatment of KPC-2 Enterobacter cloacae empyema with cefepime and levofloxacin

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2014
Carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae infections are becoming more common, are associated with high mortality rates, and are difficult to treat due to multiple mechanisms of resistance. We describe the successful treatment of Klebsiella pneumoniae carbapenemase-expressing Enterobacter cloacae empyema in a lung transplant recipient with cefepime and ...

Coproduction of KPC-2 and QnrB19 in Klebsiella pneumoniae ST340 isolate in Brazil

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2015
Few reports described the presence of bla(KPC) and qnr genes in the same isolate. This study reports the combination of bla(KPC-2) and qnrB19 genes in Klebsiella pneumoniae ST340 isolate in Brazil. These findings draw attention to this combination in ST340 isolate, which is part of the CC258, disseminated in Latin America.

[The Transmission of KPC-2 Gene in Klebsiella Species].

Sichuan da xue xue bao. Yi xue ban = Journal of Sichuan University. Medical science edition, 2018
To explore the mechanisms of imipenem resistance inKlebsiella spp. and the transmission of Klebsiella pneumoniae Carbapenemase-2(KPC-2) gene in Klebsiella species. The imipenem resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae and Klebsiella oxytoca were isolated in the West China Hospital of Sichuan University in 2009/2010 and 2012/2013.

Isolation of Escherichia coli ST131 producing KPC-2 in Bulgaria

Infectious Diseases, 2017
Sir,A recent Chinese report in the present journal showed an escalating carbapenem resistance in Gram-negative bacteria.[1] Carbapenemase-encoding genes were detected in 50 of 71 carbapenem-resista...

Mix and match of KPC-2 encoding plasmids in Enterobacteriaceae-comparative genomics

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2014
We performed comparative sequence analysis of 3 blaKPC-2 encoding plasmids to examine evolution of these plasmids and their dissemination. We found that all of them have an IncN replicon with a newly determined IncN plasmid sequence type (ST), ST15. The 2 Klebsiella pneumoniae (KPN) plasmids also harbor an IncF2A1-B1- replicon.

The characteristics of Klebsiella pneumoniae that produce KPC-2 imported from Greece

Diagnostic Microbiology and Infectious Disease, 2013
We report a case of lower urinary tract infection due to KPC-2-producing K. pneumoniae (KpCG02) in an elderly patient who had recently been hospitalized in Greece. The patient was treated successfully on an outpatient basis by removing the Foley catheter and with a prophylactic dose of gentamicin.
