Tailor-made alkaliphilic and thermostable fungal laccases for industrial wood processing

open access: yesBiotechnology for Biofuels and Bioproducts, 2022
Background During the kraft process to obtain cellulosic pulp from wood, most of the lignin is removed by high-temperature alkaline cooking, released in the black liquors and usually incinerated for energy. However, kraft lignins are a valuable source of

Kraft Lignin Conversion into Energy Carriers under the Action of Electromagnetic Radiation

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2019
In this work, it was found that the deposition of iron salts (iron acetate) on kraft lignin at extremely low concentrations of 0.1 wt.% leads to a sharp increase in the absorbing capacity of microwave radiation by kraft lignin at its power of 1 kW and ...

Bleaching of radiata pine Kraft pulp with the EnZone process

open access: yesJournal of Biotechnology, 1995
Abstract Oxygen delignified Kraft pulps from radiata pine were treated with xylanase in the presence of a quelating agent prior to their chemical bleaching with the sequences WZEOPP, EPWZP and EOPWZP. Enzymes tested included Cartazyme from Sandoz, Ecopulp from Alko-ICI, Irgazyme 40 from Ciba-Genencor and Pulpzyme HB from Novo Nordisk.

Green Process for Xylooligosaccharides Production using an Eucalyptus Kraft Pulp

open access: yesJournal of Polymers and the Environment, 2022
Xylooligosaccharides (XOS) are oligomers with recognized and important prebiotic properties, whose consumption is associated with several health benefits, including a positive impact on the immune system. In this work, XOS were produced through a green process of enzymatic hydrolysis performed directly on an intermediate product from a pulp and paper ...
