Photoluminescence Properties of Lignin With a Genetically Introduced Luminophore in a Transgenic Hybrid Aspen That Overproduces Feruloyl‐CoA 6′‐Hydroxylase

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lignin, a major cell‐wall component of woody biomass, exhibits photoluminescent (PL) properties. Controlling the intensity and colour of the PL is essential for producing lignin‐based value‐added materials. Herein, we modify the PL properties of lignin via genetic engineering of novel luminophore structures. Feruloyl‐CoA 6′‐hydroxylase (F6′H1)

Characterization of Cocoa (Theobroma cacao L.) Wood Branches as a Potential Resource for Paper Production

open access: yesBioResources
For sustainable use of lignocellulosic resources, pruned tree branches of cocoa, one of the major evergreen tropical tree crops with significant economic importance worldwide, were investigated as a potential source of kraft pulp.

Kraft Pulping of Wheat Straw

open access: yes, 2017
In this paper, pulping of wheat straw with Kraft process was studied. Chemical and morphological properties of wheat straw fibers were also investigated. Chemical properties including cellulose (39.8%), hemicellulose (29.47%), lignin (20.98%), ash (6.27%) and extractives (4.1%) were determined.

Chemical composition and fiber properties of fast-growing species in Latvia and its potential for forest bioindustry

open access: yesMetsanduslikud Uurimused, 2017
Bioenergy, including energy from wood, currently provides about 9–13% of the total global energy supply. Every fibre of fast-growing wood has a value for its potential use as a material in both pulp and paper and wood chemical industries. The aim of this

From Fibre Basket to Fibre Boiler: Climate Change, Bioenergy, and Making Waste in the Political Forest

open access: yesAntipode, Volume 58, Issue 2, 2026.
Abstract In British Columbia (BC), Canada, industry advocates are increasingly mobilising bioenergy as a renewable and carbon neutral fuel source in energy transition and climate change mitigation strategies. At the same time, changing climate conditions have exacerbated the extent and severity of beetle and fire activity in the region, and trees ...

Influence of residual lignin content on physical and mechanical properties of kraft pulp/pp composites

open access: yesMaderas: Ciencia y Tecnología, 2014
The effect of residual lignin content on the mechanical strength and water absorption of kraft pulp/polypropylene composites was studied. To meet this objective, hornbeam wood chips were converted to kraft pulp at three different alkalinities (15, 20 ...
