Numerical simulations of gas mixing effect in electron cyclotron resonance ion sources

open access: yesPhysical Review Accelerators and Beams, 2017
The particle-in-cell Monte Carlo collisions code nam-ecris is used to simulate the electron cyclotron resonance ion source (ECRIS) plasma sustained in a mixture of Kr with O_{2}, N_{2}, Ar, Ne, and He.

Use of Inert Gases for the Preservation of Nuclear Blood Cells

open access: yesBrazilian Archives of Biology and Technology
The subject of the study was the stability of human white blood cell membranes subject to noble gases (xenon ad krypton, 0.6 mPa) clathrate cryoanabiosis (‒80°C).

Initial ionization rates in shock-heated Argon, Krypton, and Xenon [PDF]

open access: yes, 1964
The rate of ionization behind strong shock waves in argon, krypton, and xenon, is observed by a transverse microwave probe, over a range of electron densities low enough that atom-atom inelastic collisions are the rate-determining mechanism.

Optical Radiation during Sputtering of Lithium into a Noble Gas Using a Nanosecond Electron Beam

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2023
The optical radiation in a gaseous medium upon the irradiation of a lithium layer with a fast electron beam of a 5 ns duration has been studied. The irradiation chamber was filled with argon, krypton, or xenon at a pressure of 10 kPa up to 60 kPa.

Multilayer krypton phase diagram [PDF]

open access: yesPhysical Review B, 1993
We present vapor pressure and high-resolution heat-capacity measurements of multilayer krypton films adsorbed on graphite. We have found a complex phase diagram including reentrant layering transitions for coverages higher than three layers. The third layering transition does not end in a condensation critical point as was previously expected.

Clathrate hydrates as a sink of noble gases in Titan's atmosphere

open access: yes, 2007
We use a statistical thermodynamic approach to determine the composition of clathrate hydrates which may form from a multiple compound gas whose composition is similar to that of Titan's atmosphere. Assuming that noble gases are initially present in this

Clathration of Volatiles in the Solar Nebula and Implications for the Origin of Titan's atmosphere [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
We describe a scenario of Titan's formation matching the constraints imposed by its current atmospheric composition. Assuming that the abundances of all elements, including oxygen, are solar in the outer nebula, we show that the icy planetesimals were ...

High-pressure crystallography shows noble gas intervention into protein-lipid interaction and suggests a model for anaesthetic action

open access: yesCommunications Biology, 2022
Noble gases are known to interact with proteins and can be good anaesthetics in hyperbaric conditions. This study identifies argon and krypton binding sites on membrane proteins and proposes as a hypothesis that noble gases, by altering protein/lipid ...
