Solvation of KSCN in Water

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2009
The results of a neutron diffraction experiment performed on aqueous solutions of KSCN are analyzed and discussed in comparison with similar data for KCl and KOH solutions. The effect of the different ions on the structure of water and the differences and similarities among the ion solvation shells are discussed in detail.

Pseudospin model for KSCN

Physical Review B, 1989

The dielectric behaviour of KSCN

Ferroelectrics, 1992
Abstract All three components of the dielectric constant of KSCN have been measured in the frequency range 103–107 Hz and 1011–1012 Hz in a wide temperature interval around and below the order-disorder transition at 415 K. The increase of the low frequency permittivity e i (T) (i = a, b, c) with temperature T is correlated to the appearance of the ...

On the domain structure of kscn

Ferroelectrics, 1988
Abstract The domain structure of plate-like KSCN crystals has been studied between room temperature and 150[ddot]C. There are 4 different domains due to the symmetry reduction 14/mcm (D 18 4h ) to Pbcm (D 11 2 h) at Tc = 140[ddot]C. Two different types of pattern were observed: Lense shaped patterns which correspond to the 90[ddot] domains and curved ...

Crystallization of Sulphides in KSCN Melts

Crystal Research and Technology, 1982
AbstractThe melt of potassium thiocyanate can be used as solvent and as supplier of sulphur for the preparation of crystals of sulphides and complex sulphosalts. The solubilities of some sulphides in the KSCN melt were determined at 250°C. Small crystals of sulphides of Cu, Ag, Tl, Hg, Pb, Ni and of ternary As‐ and Sb‐sulphosalts of these metals could ...

Structure Analysis of the Phase Transition in KSCN

Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1987
Crystal structures of KSCN are investigated with an X-ray diffraction method at several temperatures in the orthorhombic and the tetragonal phases. The nature of the order-disorder transition for SCN - ions is confirmed above and below the transition temperature.

Computer simulations of domains formation in KSCN

Ferroelectrics, 1997
Abstract A two dimensional model of KSCN crystal has been used for molecular dynamics simulations of the phase transition. Diffuse scattering function calculated during simulations shows that the correlation lenght of ordering SCN particles remains constant close below Tc but it grows when one approaches Tc from above.
