L-DOPA IN IDIOPATHIC PARKINSONISM
Lancet, The, 1969Abstract Twenty-six patients with idiopathic parkinsonism were admitted to a " double blind " " within-patient " comparison between oral L-dopa and placebo. Twenty patients completed the programme. The intake of L-dopa was gradually increased to maximum tolerated dosage (1-8 g.

A clinical investigation of L-Dopa on idiopathic oligozoospermia is carried out. Thirty nine male oligozoospermic patients with primary sterility were divided in two groups. The first group of 25 patients was treated with 500 mg a day during two months. The second group of 14 patients received 750 mg a day for the same time.

This new treatment for an old disease has its origins in pharmacological research of the late 1950s. There is still not full agreement about how L-dopa functions in the nervous system, but, as this review shows, there is ample evidence to support the clinical work in progress since 1961.

Abstract: Three cases with the occurrence of asterixis during the administration of L‐dopa were reported. Liver and metabolic functions were normal in all the patients. Upon the appearance of asterixis no other involuntary movements probably resulting from an excess administration of L‐dopa were observed.
