Production of l-lactic acid from corncob
Journal of Bioscience and Bioengineering, 2004The optimum temperature, initial pH, amount of added enzyme and substrate (corncob) for the hydrolysis of corncob by Acremonium cellulase were 35 degrees C, 4.5, 10 u/g-corncob and 100 g/l, respectively. Under the optimum conditions, more than 55 g/l of reducing sugars were hydrolyzed from 100 g/l of corncob to 34 g/l of glucose and 12 g/l of xylose ...

Microwave Synthesis of Poly(L-lactic acid)
Journal of Biomaterials Science, Polymer Edition, 2009Synthesis of poly(L-lactic acid) typically requires a long process time with the use of tin octoate as a catalyst. In this study microwave-assisted polymerization of lactic acid has been studied both with the aid and without the aid of tin octoate catalyst.

Sculptra (Injectable Poly-L-Lactic Acid)
Facial Plastic Surgery Clinics of North America, 2007As contemporary antiviral therapy provides patients who have HIV effective long-term management of their disease, the prevalence of facial HIV-associated lipoatrophy is increasing. Sculptra (Dermik Laboratories, Berwyn, Pennsylvania) (injectable poly-L-lactic acid) is US Food and Drug Administration approved for the treatment of HIV-associated ...

Combinatorial screening of cell proliferation on poly(l-lactic acid)/poly(d,l-lactic acid) blends
Biomaterials, 2005We have combined automated fluorescence microscopy with a combinatorial approach for creating polymer blend gradients to yield a rapid screening method for characterizing cell proliferation on polymer blends. A gradient in polymer blend composition of poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) and poly(D,L-lactic acid) (PDLLA) was created in the form of a strip-shaped

Disappearance of L-Lactic Acid and D-Lactic Acid in Saliva
Journal of Dental Research, 1971Lactic acid is not an end product of sugar cleavage in the oral cavity. When it is metabolized by oral microorganisms, acetic and propionic acids are formed by a reverse, partial tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle (I. KLEINBERG, Advances Oral Biol 4:43-90, 1970).

Abstract Different from traditional small molecular plasticizers, poly( l -lactic acid) (PLLA)-polyethylene glycol (PEG)-PLLA triblock copolymers were synthesized by ring-opening polymerization of L-lactide on the end hydroxyls of PEG and blended with PLLA, to enhance the crystallization of PLLA.

Conformational differences of poly(L-lactic acid) and poly(D,L-lactic acid) in dilute solutions
Doklady Chemistry, 2015Poly(L-lactic acid) and poly(D,L-lactic acid) samples have been synthesized through ring-opening polymerization. Studying homological series of two poly(lactic acids) by molecular hydrodynamics and optical methods has shown that poly-L-lactide chains in solution exhibit higher equilibrium rigidity than poly-D,L-lactide chains, which is explained by ...

Bacillus stearothermophilus for Thermophilic Production of l-Lactic Acid
Applied Biochemistry and Biotechnology, 1998A process for the continuous production of high purity L-lactic acid in a membrane bioreactor at 65 degrees C has been developed. Two different Bacillus stearothermophilus strains have been tested in batch experiments. Lactic acid yields are between 60 and more than 95% of theoretical yields.

Poly-L-Lactic Acid for the Neck
2020Neck rejuvenation is a great challenge, because there is a lack of minimally invasive techniques capable of offering results equivalent to those obtained with surgical alternatives such as a neck lift. Besides that, thinness of the dermis, variable accumulation of subcutaneous fat, and small number of cutaneous annexes make procedures in this area ...

Crystallization behavior of poly(l-lactic acid)
European Polymer Journal, 2005This article contains a detailed analysis of the crystallization behavior of poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA). Crystallization rates of PLLA have been measured in a wide temperature range, using both isothermal and non-isothermal methods. The combined usage of multiple thermal treatments allowed to obtain information on crystallization kinetics of PLLA at ...
