What are high l modes, if anything?
2008Theoretical analyses of the pulsational instability of compact objects indicate that pulsation modes of high spherical harmonic index,l, are expected to be unstable. The amplitudes of the observed, presumably low l,modes with 1>3 will bring them below the observable threshold for ground based photometry.

Transport Simulation of JT-60U L-Mode Discharges
Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1998To study the confinement characteristics of dimensionally similar discharges (ρ * experiments) in JT-60U L-mode plasmas, transport simulations have been carried out with three different transport models; i.e., the Bohm-type, the Current-Diffusive-Ballooning-Mode and the Multi-Mode models.

L-mode SOL width scaling in the MAST spherical tokamak

Thermal transport in H and D JET L-mode plasmas
2018The core thermal transport in JET H and D L-modes with similar settings is analysed. Both Te and Ti are lower in H plasmas, the difference starting at the plasma edge. Differences in the core transport are observed with different isotope, especially when higher heating is used and fast ions are expected to play a role in the stabilization of ITG modes [
