Biochar‐Induced Shifts in Resource Stoichiometry Shape Potential Nitrogen Limitation and Estimated Microbial Carbon Use Efficiency in Tropical Soils

open access: yesLand Degradation &Development, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Biochar is widely recognized as a promising amendment for enhancing soil carbon sequestration and microbial functioning, yet how biochar properties and application levels jointly influence potential microbial nutrient limitation and estimated microbial carbon use efficiency (CUE) remains unclear, especially in tropical farmland soils.

Optimizing surgery in hidradenitis suppurativa

open access: yesJournal of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology, EarlyView.
Surgery in hidradenitis suppurativa should be matched to disease extent. A structured six‐step approach—comprehensive assessment, optimal timing, ultrasound‐guided mapping, tailored intervention, individualized reconstruction and structured wound care—integrated with targeted systemic therapy optimizes outcomes and reduces recurrence.

An Evolutionary Strategy for All-Atom Folding of the 60-Amino-Acid Bacterial Ribosomal Protein L20 [PDF]

open access: yesBiophysical Journal, 2006
We have investigated an evolutionary algorithm for de novo all-atom folding of the bacterial ribosomal protein L20. We report results of two simulations that converge to near-native conformations of this 60-amino-acid, four-helix protein. We observe a steady increase of "native content" in both simulated ensembles and a large number of near-native ...

Retrospective Identification of Lactococcus petauri Among Archived Isolates From Farmed Fish in Japan: Pathogenicity and Molecular Epidemiology

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Lactococcosis, caused by Lactococcus garvieae, L. formosensis, and L. petauri, is an important bacterial disease of farmed fish worldwide. In Japan, L. petauri has not previously been reported as a cause of lactococcosis, although lactococcosis cases not attributable to either L. garvieae or L. formosensis have been recorded.

Development of a Multiplex Polymerase Chain Reaction Assay for Differentiating Three Lactococcus Species Associated With Piscine Lactococcosis

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Piscine lactococcosis is an important bacterial disease of farmed fish. The causative agents, Lactococcus garvieae, Lactococcus petauri and Lactococcus formosensis, are closely related, which complicates species‐level identification. We developed a conventional multiplex PCR assay targeting species‐specific genes identified by comparative ...

The complete genome sequence of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae L20 (serotype 5b)

open access: yes, 2008
There are 16 capsular-based serotypes of Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae, all capable of causing disease in pigs. Here we report the finished and annotated genome sequence of the reference serotype 5b strain L20.

Strawberry micropropagation simplifies endomicrobiome and highlights potential for in vitro biotization with beneficial rhizobacteria

open access: yesPlant Biology, EarlyView.
Prolonged in vitro micropropagation reshaped the strawberry endomicrobiome, reducing bacterial diversity and community complexity. Biotization with selected plant growth‐promoting bacteria partially compensated for these changes by improving plant performance and acclimatization, supporting microbiome‐assisted approaches for tissue culture systems ...

Regulating private gardens under planning law: Challenges and opportunities encountered in the Low Countries

open access: yesReview of European, Comparative &International Environmental Law, EarlyView.
Abstract This article examines how planning law in Flanders (Belgium) and the Netherlands regulates residential gardens as nature‐based solutions, identifying both legal opportunities for and obstacles to activating the ecosystem services of gardens.
