Mechanism of Quasi‐Power‐Frequency Resonant Overvoltage Triggered by Multiple Lightning Strikes in High‐Voltage Alternating Current Systems Equipped With Shunt Reactor

open access: yesHigh Voltage, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper investigates the generation mechanism of quasi‐power‐frequency resonant overvoltage triggered by multiple lightning strikes in high‐voltage alternating current (HVAC) systems equipped with shunt reactors. Based on field measurements from a 500 kV AC system, equivalent and simplified circuit models have been established to analyse ...

Paired CycleGAN‐based virtual staining for 3D X‐ray histology of bone‐implant systems

open access: yesJournal of Synchrotron Radiation, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates virtual staining for 3D X‐ray histology using a modified CycleGAN trained on paired synchrotron radiation microtomography (SR‐µCT) and histology images of bone‐implant specimens. The method enables the generation of artificially coloured contrast resembling conventional histological staining from label‐free SR‐µCT data and is ...

Iflaviruses in arthropods: when small is mighty

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Many arthropod species harbor iflaviruses, which often cause covert (asymptomatic) infections, but may still affect host fitness. We review the impact of iflaviruses on arthropod fitness, immunity, behaviour as well as the iflavirus’ host range, transmission, tissue tropism and the interactions with other microorganisms within arthropods.

Adaptation of the invasive pest Drosophila suzukii to a specialized nutritional niche

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
Unlike most Drosophila larvae that feed on spoiled food, Drosophila suzukii larvae thrive on ripening fruits and consequently face a low‐protein, high‐carbohydrate nutritional challenge. Comparisons of growth among D. suzukii, D. biarmipes, and D. melanogaster larvae across diets with varying protein‐to‐carbohydrate ratios demonstrate that D.

Developing and Validating Pre-Service EFL Teachers’ Grit Scale: Evidence from Indonesia

open access: yes
Background: Training to become an English teacher can be challenging for pre-service non-native English language teachers. In L2 English settings, they need to play a unique dual role as L2 teachers-in-training and L2 learners.

Task‐specific associations between holistic processing and individual differences in face memory

open access: yesBritish Journal of Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract Whether individual differences in face identification can be predicted by holistic processing, and whether both share a common underlying mechanism, remain open questions. Past studies exploring this association have produced mixed findings, but they have typically examined only a subset of holistic processing measures, focused largely on ...
