Wood Biomolecules as Agricultural Adjuvants for Effective Suppression of Droplet Rebound from Plant Foliage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Lignin and hemicellulose are used to develop agricultural adjuvants to decrease agrochemical run‐off from foliage, by suppressing droplet rebound and enhancing adhesion of aqueous solutions on plant leaves. The wood components combine surface activity with surface pinning effects and to improve by tenfold the droplet rebound in citrus leaves ...

Discovery of the Remarkably Red L/T Transition Object VHS J183135.58-551355.9

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present the discovery of VHS J183135.58−551355.9 (hereafter VHS J1831−5513), an L/T transition dwarf identified as a result of its unusually red near-infrared colors ( J − K _S = 3.633 ± 0.277 mag; J − W 2 = 6.249 ± 0.245 mag) from the VISTA ...

High Proton Conductivity in xCuO/(1‐x)CeO2 Electrolytes Induced by CuO Self‐Nucleation and Electron‐Ion Coupling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study discovers electron‐ion (E‐I) coupling in xCuO/(1‐x)CeO2(CCO), (x = 0–0.4) membranes, achieving ionic conductivity >0.15 S cm−1, with activation energy 0.28 eV and generated peak power density 900 mW cm−2 at 550 °C. Interfacial charge distribution and build‐in electric field enhanced ion transport entirely advanced the LT‐SOFC technology for ...

Periodic Radio Emission from the T8 Dwarf WISE J062309.94–045624.6

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters, 2023
We present the detection of rotationally modulated, circularly polarized radio emission from the T8 brown dwarf WISE J062309.94−045624.6 between 0.9 and 2.0 GHz.

K2 Ultracool Dwarfs Survey. I. Photometry of an L Dwarf Superflare [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 2017
Abstract We report on K2 Campaign 8 measurements of a huge white light flare on the L1 dwarf SDSSp J005406.55-003101.8 (EPIC 220186653). The source is a typical L1 dwarf at a distance of ∼50 pc, probably an old hydrogen-burning star rather than a young brown dwarf.

Resistance Drift of Phase Change Materials Beyond the Power Law

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
The timedependent resistance of phase change materials is important for their application as electronic memory. Here, resistance measurements of melt‐quenched germanium telluride from nanoseconds to minutes are presented. By going far beyond the usually considered measurement regime, deviations from the ubiquitous power law behavior are observed, that ...

Isotope Techniques in Chemical Wastewater Treatment: Opportunities and Uncertainties

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
In this review, we would first introduce basic knowledge about isotopic compounds and then scrutinize the physical and chemical influence induced by isotope changes. Special attention will be paid to the uncertainties in explaining the isotope results.

Direct Imaging Explorations for Companions around Mid–Late M Stars from the Subaru/IRD Strategic Program

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2023
The Subaru telescope is currently performing a strategic program (SSP) using the high-precision near-infrared (NIR) spectrometer IRD to search for exoplanets around nearby mid/late M dwarfs via radial velocity (RV) monitoring.

Activity and Kinematics of M and L Dwarfs [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2000
I discuss observations of two traditional age indicators, chromospheric activity and kinematics, in late-M and L dwarfs near the hydrogen-burning limit. The frequency and strength of chromospheric activity disappears rapidly as a function of temperature over spectral types M8-L4.

A Chandra X-ray detection of the L dwarf binary Kelu-1: Simultaneous Chandra and Very Large Array observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Magnetic activity in ultracool dwarfs, as measured in X-rays and H$\alpha$, shows a steep decline after spectral type M7-M8. So far, no L dwarf has been detected in X-rays. In contrast, L dwarfs may have higher radio activity than M dwarfs. We observe L and T dwarfs simultaneously in X-rays and radio to determine their level of magnetic activity in the
