Ocular and Systemic Findings in COL2A1 and COL11A1 Stickler Syndrome

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Medical Genetics Part A, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Stickler syndrome is most commonly caused by variants in COL2A1 and COL11A1 genes. The purpose of this study was to describe genetic variants and phenotypes in COL2A1 and COL11A1 Stickler syndrome. We performed a retrospective genotype–phenotype evaluation of COL2A1 and COL11A1 Stickler syndrome subjects. Thirty‐two subjects with COL2A1 and 13

Resolving the Super-Earth/Gas Giant Connection in Stellar Mass and Metallicity

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal Letters
The observed correlation between inner super-Earths (SE) and outer gas giants (GG) places strong constraints on formation theories. Building on previous work, M. L. Bryan & E. J.

Disentangling auroral-, cloud-, and magnetic spot-driven variability in three early L dwarfs with HST/WFC3

open access: yesAstronomy & Astrophysics
Variability monitoring provides unparalleled insights into the atmospheric processes of brown dwarfs and directly imaged exoplanets. Inhomogeneous clouds, aurorae, and magnetic spots have all been postulated as potential drivers of variability.

The Insistence of Blackness and the Persistence of Antiblackness in Ireland

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper positions Ireland as a critical site for examining the insistence of blackness and an antiblackness created and sustained through Irish ethnonationalist imaginaries and exclusionary processes. Drawing on connected sociologies and Irish Black Studies, this enquiry argues that antiblackness in Ireland operates as a generational force,

Discovery of 118 New Ultracool Dwarf Candidates Using Machine-learning Techniques

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We present the discovery of 118 new ultracool dwarf candidates, discovered using a new machine-learning tool, named SMDET , applied to time-series images from the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer.

SDSS J080531.84+481233.0: An Unresolved L Dwarf/T Dwarf Binary [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2007
SDSS J080531.84+481233.0 is a peculiar L-type dwarf that exhibits unusually blue near-infrared and mid-infrared colors and divergent optical (L4) and near-infrared (L9.5) spectral classifications. These peculiar spectral traits have been variously attributed to condensate cloud effects or subsolar metallicity.

Stakeholder Perspectives on Therapeutic and Safe Building Design in Residential Care

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Social Issues, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Residential care is a form of out‐of‐home care that plays a critical role in supporting vulnerable young people in Australia. However, there is an evidence gap regarding the built environment in this context. This research aimed to explore the perspectives of key stakeholders in residential care in Victoria, Australia, regarding design that ...

Three Thousand Motion-confirmed L and T Dwarf Candidates from the Backyard Worlds: Planet 9 Citizen Science Project

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
The Backyard Worlds: Planet 9 citizen science project uses data from the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer to detect infrared objects with significant motion. In this work, we present the majority of the L and T dwarf candidates discovered through this

Infrared Spectroscopy of Brown Dwarfs: the onset of methane absorption in L dwarfs and the L/T transition

open access: yes, 2001
We present infrared spectra of brown dwarfs with spectral types from mid-L to T. The 0.9-2.5 $μ$m spectra of three dwarfs found by the Sloan Digital Sky Survey contain absorption bands of both methane and carbon monoxide and bridge the gap between late L and previously observed T dwarfs.

Synergistic Effect on Enhanced Oil Recovery in High Salinity Carbonate Reservoirs Using a Novel PEI‐Functionalized Carbon Nanotube Nanocomposite

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Enhancing oil recovery (EOR) in mature reservoirs is hindered by high interfacial tension (IFT) and oil‐wet rock formations, especially under harsh, high‐salinity conditions. This study aims to overcome these limitations by synthesizing a novel carbon nanotube nanocomposite covalently grafted with polyethylenimine and non‐covalently ...
