A Survey of Model Fits to Brown Dwarf Spectra Through the L–T Sequence

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We fit archival near-IR spectra of ∼300 brown dwarfs with atmosphere models from the Sonora and Phoenix groups. Using the parameters of the best-fit models as estimates for the physical properties of the brown dwarfs in our sample, we have performed a ...

Constraining the Distribution of L- & T-Dwarfs in the Galaxy

open access: yes, 2005
We estimate the thin disk scale height of the Galactic population of L- & T-dwarfs based on star counts from 15 deep parallel fields from the Hubble Space Telescope.

OsGSK2‐OsTCP19 Module Integrates Nitrogen and Brassinosteroid Signaling to Regulate Nitrogen Utilization and Root Growth in Rice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
OsGSK2‐OsTCP19 module regulating nitrate response and lateral root (LR) development. Low‐nitrate condition results in reduced BR response, accumulation of OsGSK2 and phosphorylated OsTCP19, which suppresses the expression of nitrate‐responsive genes and LR‐development genes and impairs rice growth.

The Sonora Substellar Atmosphere Models. VI. Red Diamondback: Extending Diamondback with SPHINX for Brown Dwarf Early Evolution

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We extend the Sonora Diamondback brown dwarf evolution models to higher effective temperatures to treat the evolution of younger, higher-mass objects. Due to an upper temperature limit of T _eff  =  2400 K in the original Sonora Diamondback model grid ...

AKARI Observations of Brown Dwarfs I.: CO and CO_2 Bands in the Near-Infrared Spectra

open access: yes, 2010
Near-infrared medium-resolution spectra of seven bright brown dwarfs are presented. The spectra were obtained with the Infrared Camera (IRC) on board the infrared astronomical satellite AKARI, covering 2.5--5.0 um with a spectral resolution of ...

Large‐Scale Quantitative Morphometry of Platelet α‐Granules via SIM Super‐Resolution Microscopy for Cancer Liquid Biopsy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Blood‐based liquid biopsies hold transformative potential for non‐invasive cancer management, but current approaches relying on rare circulating tumor components limit their broad clinical utility. Platelets, abundant in blood and mediating diverse cancer‐associated responses, represent a compelling yet largely unexplored alternative.

An Informed and Systematic Method to Identify Variable Mid-L Dwarfs

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Most brown dwarfs show some level of photometric or spectral variability. However, finding the most variable dwarfs more suited for a thorough variability monitoring campaign remained a challenge until a few years ago with the design of spectral indices ...

Comparative Insights and Overlooked Factors of Interphase Chemistry in Alkali Metal‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review presents a comparative analysis of Li‐, Na‐, and K‐ion batteries, focusing on the critical role of electrode–electrolyte interphases. It especially highlights overlooked aspects such as SEI/CEI misconceptions, binder effects, and self‐discharge relevance, emphasizing the limitations of current understanding and offering strategies for ...

A Volume-limited Sample of Ultracool Dwarfs. II. The Substellar Age and Mass Functions in the Solar Neighborhood

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We present the most precise constraints to date for the mass and age distributions of single ultracool dwarfs in the solar neighborhood, based on an updated volume-limited sample of 504 L, T, and Y dwarfs within 25 pc.

Proper motion Pleiades candidate L‐type brown dwarfs

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, 2005
AbstractWe present results of an optical and near‐infrared (IR) 1.8 deg2 survey in the Pleiades open cluster to search for substellar objects. From optical I ‐band images from the CFHT and J ‐band images from the 3.5m CAHA Telescope, we identify 18 faint and very red L brown dwarf candidates, with I > 20.9 and I – J > 3.2.
