NFYB Integrates Hormonal Signals into Tissue Allometry by Promoting Protein Biosynthesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In the American cockroach, NFYB acts as a spatiotemporin that translates distinct hormonal cues into tissue‐specific allometry. Juvenile hormone activates NFYB in the early fat body, while 20‐hydroxyecdysone induces it in late wing pads. NFYB then promotes protein biosynthesis via core translational machinery, driving differential growth across the ...

A Survey of Model Fits to Brown Dwarf Spectra Through the L–T Sequence

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
We fit archival near-IR spectra of ∼300 brown dwarfs with atmosphere models from the Sonora and Phoenix groups. Using the parameters of the best-fit models as estimates for the physical properties of the brown dwarfs in our sample, we have performed a ...

L-Band Photometry of L and T Dwarfs

open access: yes, 2001
We present K- and L-band photometry obtained with the Keck I telescope for a representative sample of L and T dwarfs. These observations were motivated in part by the dominant role water and methane play in shaping the flux near 2 and 3 microns and by the potential use of these bands as indicators of spectral class in the infrared.

The First L-Type Brown Dwarf in the Pleiades

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal, 1998
We have obtained low-resolution optical spectra of three faint brown dwarf candidates in the Pleiades open cluster. The objects observed are Roque 12 (I=18.5), Roque 5 (I=19.7) and Roque 25 (I=21.2). The spectrum of Roque 25 does not show the strong TiO bandheads that characterize the optical spectra of M-type stars, but molecular bands of CaH, CrH and

Meeting the Cool Neighbors. V. A 2MASS-Selected Sample of Ultracool Dwarfs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We present the initial results of our effort to create a statistically robust, volume-limited sample of ultracool dwarfs from the Two Micron All Sky Survey Second Incremental Data Release.

Comparative Insights and Overlooked Factors of Interphase Chemistry in Alkali Metal‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review presents a comparative analysis of Li‐, Na‐, and K‐ion batteries, focusing on the critical role of electrode–electrolyte interphases. It especially highlights overlooked aspects such as SEI/CEI misconceptions, binder effects, and self‐discharge relevance, emphasizing the limitations of current understanding and offering strategies for ...

The Sonora Substellar Atmosphere Models. VI. Red Diamondback: Extending Diamondback with SPHINX for Brown Dwarf Early Evolution

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
We extend the Sonora Diamondback brown dwarf evolution models to higher effective temperatures to treat the evolution of younger, higher-mass objects. Due to an upper temperature limit of T _eff  =  2400 K in the original Sonora Diamondback model grid ...

Machine Learning Interatomic Potentials for Energy Materials: Architectures, Training Strategies, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Machine learning interatomic potentials bridge quantum accuracy and computational efficiency for materials discovery. Architectures from Gaussian process regression to equivariant graph neural networks, training strategies including active learning and foundation models, and applications in solid‐state electrolytes, batteries, electrocatalysts ...

An Informed and Systematic Method to Identify Variable Mid-L Dwarfs

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Most brown dwarfs show some level of photometric or spectral variability. However, finding the most variable dwarfs more suited for a thorough variability monitoring campaign remained a challenge until a few years ago with the design of spectral indices ...

Proper Motions and Tangential Velocities for a Large Sample of Late-type M, L and T Dwarfs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
We report proper motion measurements for 427 late‐type M, L and T dwarfs, 332 of which have been measured for the first time. Combining these new proper motions with previously published measurements yields a sample of 841 M7-T8 dwarfs.
