Association of Synovial Innate Immune Exhaustion With Worse Pain in Knee Osteoarthritis

open access: yesArthritis &Rheumatology, EarlyView.
Objective Uncontrolled pain remains a major clinical challenge in the management of knee osteoarthritis (OA), the most common disabling joint disease. Worse pain is associated with synovial innate immune cell infiltration (synovitis), but the role of innate immune‐regulatory cells in pain is unknown. Our objective was to identify synovial innate immune

Atmospheric Waves Driving Variability and Cloud Modulation on a Planetary-mass Object

open access: yesThe Astrophysical Journal
Planetary-mass objects and brown dwarfs at the transition ( T _eff ∼ 1300 K) from relatively red L dwarfs to bluer mid-T dwarfs show enhanced spectrophotometric variability.

Parallaxes of Brown Dwarfs at USNO [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2002
Trigonometric parallaxes have been measured by Dahn et al. (2002) for 28 cool dwarfs and brown dwarfs, including 17 L dwarfs and three T dwarfs. Broadband CCD and near-IR photometry (VRIz*JHK) have been obtained for these objects and for 24 additional late-type dwarfs. These data have been supplemented with astrometry and photometry from the literature,

Dark Energy From the Gravitational Wave Background With Scalar Field Dark Matter

open access: yesAstronomische Nachrichten, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Recent observational results, such as those from pulsar timing arrays (PTA), suggest a low‐frequency Gravitational Wave Background (GWB) permeates our universe. This opens the possibility that gravitational waves could span a broader spectrum, potentially impacting cosmological scales.

Purple nonsulfur bacteria biomass as a potential biofuel source: A study of lipid characterization methods using gas chromatography

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Wastewater treatment with purple nonsulfur bacteria (PNSB) is an emerging biotechnology for sustainable wastewater management and resource recovery. Previous studies in this field have concentrated on microbial protein potential; however, this study examines the lipid recovery potential of PNSB‐dominated mixed culture biomass derived from gas ...

Photometric brown-dwarf classification [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2013
We have developed a method "photo-type" to identify and accurately classify L and T dwarfs, onto the standard system, from photometry alone. We combine SDSS, UKIDSS and WISE data and classify point sources by comparing the izYJHKW1W2 colours against template colours for quasars, stars, and brown dwarfs.

Listening to Hong Kong children's perspectives through pretend play

open access: yesBritish Educational Research Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Quality in early childhood education and care (ECEC) has become an increasing concern in recent years. The issue has been regularly discussed by different stakeholders. However, the rising concern regarding quality in ECEC has not seriously taken into account children's perspectives.
