Interdecadal changes in the El Nino–La Nina asymmetry

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2004
The SST anomalies (SSTA) over the past 148 years have been analyzed to describe the interdecadal change in the skewness of SSTA (ICS) in the tropical Pacific and possible consequence of this change. The first EOF mode of ICS represents the interdecadal changes in the El Nino‐La Nina asymmetry.

High Health Care Utilization Preceding Diagnosis With Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Although early diagnosis improves long‐term outcomes, patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) often experience prolonged, circuitous paths to diagnosis. To inform diagnostic improvement, we sought to characterize health care utilization in the year preceding diagnosis. Methods We identified 10,021 patients with an incident diagnosis

Regularity of the speed of biased random walk in a one-dimensional percolation model

open access: yes, 2017
We consider biased random walks on the infinite cluster of a conditional bond percolation model on the infinite ladder graph. Axelsson-Fisk and H\"aggstr\"om established for this model a phase transition for the asymptotic linear speed $\overline{\mathrm{

Cumulative Social Disadvantage and Disease Activity in Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis: A Childhood Arthritis and Rheumatology Research Alliance Registry Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Social determinants of health (SDOH) contribute to juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) disparities, but most studies have assessed SDOH independently rather than cumulatively across individual, family, and neighborhood levels. Using a socioecological framework, we investigated the relationship among cumulative social disadvantage ...

Impact of Warming Trend in Western Equatorial Pacific on Modulating the Triple‐Dip La Niña and Its Associated Teleconnection in 2020–2022

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters
In this study, we investigated the triple‐dip La Niña during 2020–2022 by comparing it with the previous (1973–1975 and 1998–2000) La Niña events. We found that the cold sea surface temperature (SST) in the eastern equatorial Pacific was moderate during ...

Effects of Causal Beliefs About Gout on Public Views About Gout Management: A Randomized Experimental Study

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Despite well‐described biologic causes, the public views unhealthy lifestyle choices as the primary cause of gout. This study investigated how causal beliefs about gout influence the public's views about its management. Methods In a randomized study, 201 members of the public viewed one of two 2‐minute videos about gout.
