Lifting-based Directional DCT-like Transform for Image Coding

open access: yes, 2008
Traditional 2D DCT implemented by separable 1D transform in horizontal and vertical directions does not take image orientation features in a local window into account.

Arsenite methyltransferase 3 is required for mitochondrial function and hepatic lipid metabolism

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
AS3MT is a protein that helps the body process arsenic, a naturally occurring toxin found in water and soil. We discovered it also helps cells make and use energy properly. Without AS3MT, cells' mitochondria do not work well, leading to fatty liver and reduced activity. Increasing AS3MT in liver cells restores energy and protects against arsenic damage,

A DCT-based Embedded Image Coder

open access: yes, 1996
Since Shapiro published his work on embedded zerotree wavelet (EZW) image coding [1], there have been increased research activities in image coding centered around wavelets. In this letter, we first point out that the wavelet transform is just one member

TRIM32 controls timely cell cycle exit in muscular differentiation through downregulation of c‐Myc mRNA

open access: yesThe FEBS Journal, EarlyView.
Trim32 regulates the transition from proliferation to differentiation in C2C12 cells after myogenic induction. We found that, at the onset of differentiation, Trim32 destabilizes c‐Myc mRNA, promotes cell cycle exit, and enables normal myotube formation.

Activation of the Urokinase Plasminogen Activator/Urokinase Plasminogen Activator Receptor System in Periodontitis: A Case–Control Study

open access: yesInternational Journal of Dental Hygiene, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction The plasminogen activating (PA) system has a multitude of functions such as wound healing, proteolytic activity, collagen degradation and cell growth, and the role of the urokinase plasminogen activator/urokinase plasminogen activator receptor (uPA/uPAR) system has been studied in many disease states.

Neuregulin 4‐dependent MAPK amplification mediates urate‐induced β‐cell dysfunction

open access: yesJournal of Diabetes Investigation, EarlyView.
Hyperuricemia impairs glucose homeostasis by inducing pancreatic β‐cell apoptosis without insulin resistance. In male Uox‐KO mice, urate upregulates Nrg4, which amplifies MAPK signaling and drives β‐cell death. Thus, hyperuricemia disrupts glucose metabolism via the Nrg4‐MAPK axis.

Assessment of two minimally invasive methodologies for sex identification in the European eel, Anguilla anguilla

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Sex is an important driver of variation in behaviour, ecology and physiology. Sex identification in the Critically Endangered European eel (Anguilla anguilla) currently requires fish sacrifice, or the use of morphological differences such as body length, which can be inaccurate in certain habitats and at intermediate body lengths.

Expanding the Fish‐Brain Invitrome With the Senegalese Sole SsB‐1 Cell Line—A Versatile Model for Neurotropic Virus Research

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Cell lines are essential tools for studying animal physiology and immunopathology, reducing the use of live animals and supporting the 3Rs principle of reduction, refinement, and replacement. The Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis), a relevant species for Spanish aquaculture diversification, lacks established in vitro models. We developed SsB‐

The Study of A DCT-based Still Image Compression and Implementation on TI DaVinci

open access: yes, 2010
[[abstract]]In this thesis, in order that we can execute our algorithm of still image compression on embedded system, we use the low-complexity and low-memory coding ways to reach a still image compression technique with high speed, high image quality ...

Vaccination Reduces Shedding of Salmonid Alphavirus Subtype 3, but Bacterial Co‐Infection Influences the Effect

open access: yesJournal of Fish Diseases, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Waterborne horizontal transmission of viral diseases in fish relies on the release of infectious virus particles (termed shedding) into the aquatic environment. Both the rate and duration of shedding are critical for efficient viral spread, making interventions that reduce shedding valuable for disease control.
