Laboratory diagnosis of infective endocarditis [PDF]

open access: yesEuropean Heart Journal, 1984
The diagnosis of infective endocarditis is based on positive blood cultures. Modern microbiological techniques can isolate the aetiological agent in 90-95% of cases. The rapidity of detection has been improved by inoculation of 10 ml of blood, adequate dilution and media and systematic subcultures.

Clonorchis sinensis excretory/secretory products promote the secretion of TNF-alpha in the mouse intrahepatic biliary epithelial cells via Toll-like receptor 4

open access: yesParasites & Vectors, 2015
Background Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), as one of the most important pathogen pattern recognitions (PPRs) plays a central role in elicitation of innate immunity and mediation of adaptive responses against foreign antigens. However, little is known of the

Herpesvirus infections of laboratory macaques

open access: yesJournal of Immunotoxicology, 2009
Non-human primates (NHPs), primarily macaques, are commonly used as non-rodent species in pre-clinical safety assessment studies. The use of macaques in such studies is increasing largely due to the development of biopharmaceutical and immunomodulatory therapies that necessitates extensive safety testing.
