Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

A Monolithic Integration Bio-Inspired Three-Dimensional MEMS Vector Hydrophone

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
Three-dimensional vector hydrophone plays an important role in underwater spatial location. In order to solve the problems of monolithic integration and linearity of previous three-dimensional vector hydrophones, a three-dimensional micro-electro ...

Economic consequences of near-patient test results - the case of tests for the Helicobacter Pylori bacterium in dyspepsia [PDF]

open access: yes
Diagnostic tests and in particular laboratory tests are often important in diagnostic work-up and monitoring of patients. Therefore the economic consequences of medical actions based on test results may amount to a substantial proportion of health ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Time Inconsistency, Sophistication, and Commitment An Experimental Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
We experimentally study the relationship between time inconsistency, sophistication about time inconsistency, and self-commitment. Previous research has interpreted demand for commitment devices as evidence for the sophistication of a time-inconsistent ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Houston, We have a Problem: Effects of Technical Frustration on Student Learning in Laboratories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This study investigates the effect of the signature technical difficulties of laboratory work on student learning in the physical science classroom. Certainly the educational strategies of text and lecture are sorely lacking.
