Taurocholic Acid Is Associated With Disturbed Functional Connectivity in the Hippocampus of Patients With Depression

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies elevated taurocholic acid (TCA) in Major Depressive Disorder patients. Gut microbiome‐associated TCA impairs hippocampal neurogenesis, triggers microglia activation, and elicits depression‐like behavior in mice via the S1PR2. In patients, functional neuroimaging reveals that serum TCA levels correlate with altered functional ...

Derelict architecture: Aesthetics of an unaesthetic space [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The main focus of this article is the question of the aesthetics of an unaesthetic ruined space. The author also pays particular attention to the ambivalence that exists in contemporary derelict architecture, referred to as ‘modern ruins’, and tries to ...

Discovery of a Novel and Potent Kir4.1 Inhibitor as a Safe and Rapid‐Onset Antidepressant Agent in Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The preferred derivative JX3212 demonstrates strong inhibitory activity against Kir4.1 with favorable druggability and shows significant antidepressant efficacy in vivo. Abstract Major depressive disorder is a serious psychiatric disorder for which novel and fast‐acting antidepressants are required.

Influence of relative NK-DC abundance on placentation and its relation to epigenetic programming in the offspring [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Normal placentation relies on an efficient maternal adaptation to pregnancy. Within the decidua, natural killer (NK) cells and dendritic cells (DC) have a critical role in modulating angiogenesis and decidualization associated with pregnancy.

HRS Degradation‐Induced Nicotinamide Deficiency in Placental Extracellular Vesicles Triggers Preeclampsia by Disrupting Maternal‐Fetal Immune Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that lower NAM levels in PE‐derived pEVs correlate with disease severity. NAM‐deficient pEVs reduce Th1 and Th17 inhibition, leading to PE‐like symptoms. NAM in pEVs inhibits Th1 via SIRT1 and Th17 via macrophages. Reduced NAM in PE‐EVs is due to decreased HRS expression in trophoblasts, resulting from elevated HSP27.

The platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha promoter-directed expression of cre recombinase in mouse placenta. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundNumerous pathologies of pregnancy originate from placental dysfunction. It is essential to understand the functions of key genes in the placenta in order to discern the etiology of placental pathologies.

Inhibition of SLC11A1‐Mediated Lysosomal Iron Accumulation in Microglia Promotes Repair Following White Matter Stroke

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Genetic and pharmacological inhibition of SLC11A1 functioning as an H+/Fe2+ antiporter–mediated lysosomal iron accumulation in microglia promotes lysosomal lumen acidification, increases CTSD expression, enhances lysosomal myelin debris uptake and degradation, and promotes repair following white matter stroke. ABSTRACT White matter stroke (WMS) results

Narrative environments: how do they matter? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
The significance and possible senses of the phrase 'narrative environment' are explored. It is argued that 'narrative environment' is not only polysemous but also paradoxical; not only representational but also performative; and not just performatively ...

Adenylyl Cyclase 8 in Dorsal CA1 Neurons Prevents Depressive‐Like Behaviors by Maintaining Neuronal Excitability and Glutamatergic Neurotransmission Through TIP39‐PTH2R Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Depression, a prevalent neuropsychiatric disorder with unclear pathogenesis, involves dysfunctional adenylyl cyclase 8 (Adcy8) as a key risk factor. Chronic stress selectively reduces Adcy8 expression in the dorsal CA1 (dCA1) neurons. Depletion of Adcy8 in dCA1 excitatory neurons induces depressive‐like behaviors by impairing neuronal excitability and ...
