Neuroendocrinology of Lactation

open access: yesJournal of Investigative Dermatology, 1974
Although other hormones influence the quantity of milk secretion, prolactin and adrenal corticosteroids are essential for initiating and maintaining lactation. During pregnancy high levels of estrogen and progesterone inhibit lactation, and elevation of prolactin and ACTH-adrenal corticosteroid levels result in the initiation of lactation at the end of

From omics to AI—mapping the pathogenic pathways in type 2 diabetes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Integrating multi‐omics data with AI‐based modelling (unsupervised and supervised machine learning) identify optimal patient clusters, informing AI‐driven accurate risk stratification. Digital twins simulate individual trajectories in real time, guiding precision medicine by matching patients to targeted therapies.

Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering Active Gold Nanoparticles with Enzyme-Mimicking Activities for Measuring Glucose and Lactate in Living Tissues.

open access: yesACS Nano, 2017
Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with simultaneous plasmonic and biocatalytic properties provide a promising approach to developing versatile bioassays. However, the combination of AuNPs' intrinsic enzyme-mimicking properties with their surface-enhanced Raman ...

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.

Estudo piloto sobre a eficácia do losartan no tratamento do fenômeno de Raynaud (FRy) e correlação com alterações na microcirculação em pacientes com esclerose sistêmica (ES) Pilot study on losartan efficacy in the treatment of Raynaud's phenomenon (RP) and correlation with microcirculation alterations in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc)

Lactate and BDNF: Key Mediators of Exercise Induced Neuroplasticity?

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Medicine, 2020
Accumulating evidence from animal and human studies supports the notion that physical exercise can enhance neuroplasticity and thus reduce the risk of several neurodegenerative diseases (e.g., dementia). However, the underlying neurobiological mechanisms

Loss of proton‐sensing GPR4 reduces tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
G protein‐coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) is a pH‐sensing receptor activated by acidic pH. GPR4 expression is increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancer. In mouse models, loss of GPR4 attenuated tumor progression. This correlated with increased IL2 and natural killer cell activity.

Energy Dynamics in the Brain: Contributions of Astrocytes to Metabolism and pH Homeostasis

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2019
Regulation of metabolism is complex and involves enzymes and membrane transporters, which form networks to support energy dynamics. Lactate, as a metabolic intermediate from glucose or glycogen breakdown, appears to play a major role as additional ...
