Summary Recommended dietary allowances for women during pregnancy are discussed in the light of actual intakes both in the developing and industrialized countries. The difference between total energy intakes in the industrialized countries (around 2900 kcal) and in the developing countries (around 1600 kcal) is emphasized.

Loss of proton‐sensing GPR4 reduces tumor progression in mouse models of colon cancer
G protein‐coupled receptor 4 (GPR4) is a pH‐sensing receptor activated by acidic pH. GPR4 expression is increased in patients with inflammatory bowel disease who are at high risk of developing colorectal cancer. In mouse models, loss of GPR4 attenuated tumor progression. This correlated with increased IL2 and natural killer cell activity.

Mutual-Information Based Optimal Experimental Design for Hyperpolarized $^{13}$C-Pyruvate MRI [PDF]
A key parameter of interest recovered from hyperpolarized (HP) MRI measurements is the apparent pyruvate-to-lactate exchange rate, $k_{PL}$, for measuring tumor metabolism. This manuscript presents an information-theory-based optimal experimental design (OED) approach that minimizes the uncertainty in the rate parameter, $k_{PL}$, recovered from HP-MRI

Metabolic and Stress Responses in Senegalese Soles (Solea senegalensis Kaup) Fed Tryptophan Supplements: E ects of Concentration and Feeding Period [PDF]
The objective of this study was to assess the impact of di erent dietary Trp concentrations on the stress and metabolism response of juvenile Senegalese soles (Solea senegalensis). Fish (38.1 1.9 g) were fed di erent Trp-enriched feeds (0%, 1% and 2%

The tumor microenvironment is a dynamic, multifaceted complex system of interdependent cellular, biochemical, and biophysical components. Three‐dimensional in vitro models of the tumor microenvironment enable a better understanding of these interactions and their impact on cancer progression and therapeutic resistance.

Liver‐specific knockout of N6‐methyladenosine (m6A) methyltransferase METTL3 significantly accelerated hepatic tumor initiation under various oncogenic challenges, contrary to the previously reported oncogenic role of METTL3 in liver cancer cell lines or xenograft models. Mechanistically, METTL3 deficiency reduced m6A deposition on Manf transcripts and

Blood lactate concentration prediction in critical care patients: handling missing values [PDF]
Blood lactate concentration is a strong indicator of mortality risk in critically ill patients. While frequent lactate measurements are necessary to assess patient's health state, the measurement is an invasive procedure that can increase risk of hospital-acquired infections.

Reaction of Energetic Metabolism and Antioxidant Enzymes to Hypoxia and Reoxygenation in Deep Water Amphipods Ommatogammarus carneolus melanophthalmus from Lake Baikal [PDF]
The aim of the current study was to estimate the effects of acute hypoxia and reoxygenation on energy metabolism and activities of antioxidant enzymes as markers of oxidative stress in Baikal deep water amphipods Ommatogammarus carneolus melanophthalmus.
