Lactofen induces isoflavone accumulation and glyceollin elicitation competency in soybean.
Phytochemistry, 2003Lactofen, the active ingredient of the soybean disease resistance-inducing herbicide, Cobra, induces large accumulations of isoflavone conjugates and aglycones in soybean tissues. The predominant isoflavones induced in cotyledon tissues are daidzein (and its conjugates) and formononetin and glycitein aglycones.

Soybean [Glycine max (L.)] Response to Lactofen
Weed Science, 1993Field studies were conducted in 1987 and 1988 to evaluate the vegetative response of soybeans to early postemergence applications of lactofen and to measure crop recovery. Soybean injury 4 d after treatment (DAT) averaged 29 and 34% with 0.22 and 0.44 kg ai ha−1of lactofen, respectively.

Growth Regulation with Lactofen Does Not Affect Seed Yield of Irrigated Soybean
Agronomy Journal, 2016Soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] producers have considered the use of lactofen herbicide (2‐ethoxy‐1‐methyl‐2‐oxoethyl 5‐[2‐chloro‐4‐(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]‐2‐nitrobenzoate) as a growth regulator part of management systems for high‐yielding soybean, believing that lactofen can reduce plant height and lodging or increase node number. Nitric oxide reduces oxidative stress generated by lactofen in soybean plants.
Pesticide Biochemistry and Physiology, 2010Nitric oxide (NO) is a molecule able to directly scavenge ROS and end chain reactions, which can be generated by some herbicides. This study aimed to evaluate whether the pretreatment of soybean plants with sodium nitroprusside (SNP) solution, a NO-donor substance, provides protection against oxidative stress generated by lactofen.

Influence of soil properties on the enantioselective dissipation of the herbicide lactofen in soils.
Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, 2009A scheme was developed to elucidate the dissipation behaviors of the two enantiomers of the herbicide lactofen in soils using a normal-phase high-performance liquid chromatograph (HPLC) with UV detector and a column with a cellulose-tri-(3,5-dimethylphenylcarbamate)-based chiral stationary phase (CDMPC-CSP).

Early‐Season Lactofen Application Fails to Increase Soybean Yield under Weed‐Free Conditions
Agronomy Journal, 2016In an effort to increase soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] yield, growers may consider non‐traditional use of crop inputs. One non‐traditional input use is the application of lactofen {2‐ethoxy‐1‐methyl‐2‐oxoethyl 5‐[2‐chloro‐4‐(trifluoromethyl)phenoxy]‐2‐nitrobenzoate} herbicide to early‐vegetative soybean to promote increased branch development and ...

Early-Season Lactofen Application has Limited Effect on Soybean Branch and Mainstem Yield Components
Crop Science, 2016ABSTRACTRecent interest in maximizing soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] yield has led producers to seek management strategies to affect soybean yield components. One strategy that has been pursued is application of diphenyl ether herbicides, such as lactofen, to early‐vegetative soybean to kill the apical meristem in an effort to increase soybean ...

Many pesticides in use are chiral compounds containing stereoisomers. However, the environmental behavior and fate of such compounds with respect to enantioselectivity so far has received little attention. In this study, the degradation of lactofen and its main metabolites (acifluorfen, an achiral compound; desethyl lactofen, a chiral compound) in ...
