Partial Purification and Properties of Porcine Thymus Lactosylceramide β-Galactosidase

The Journal of Biochemistry, 1976
Porcine thymus lactosylceramide beta-galactosidase was purified by a simple procedure. In the final step of isoelectric focusing the enzyme was separated into two peaks of pI 6.3 (peak I) and 7.0 (peak II), which showed 3,600- and 4,000-fold enhancement of lactosylceramide-hydrolysing activity, respectively.

Lactosylceramide in lysosomal storage disorders. A comparative immunohistochemical and biochemical study

Virchows Archiv, 2005
Immunohistochemical studies of the presence of lactosylceramide (LacCer) in lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs) were done using anti-LacCer monoclonal antibody of the CDw 17 type (clone MG-2). No sign of an association between LacCer and the lysosomal system in normal cells was observed, except for histiocytes active in phagocytosis. A comparative study

cDNA cloning and expression of human lactosylceramide synthase.

Biochimica et biophysica acta, 1999
Lactosylceramide synthase is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of galactose from UDP-Gal to glucosylceramide, and thus participates in the biosynthesis of most glycolipids in mammals. We have isolated and sequenced the cDNA clone encoding human lactosylceramide synthase.
