In-plane and out-of-plane measurements of Rayleigh waves using EMATs for characterising surface cracks [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Electromagnetic acoustic transducers (EMATs) have been used to measure the properties of Rayleigh waves in the vicinity of defects propagating at different angles to the sample surface, which are more representative of real defects than slots machined ...

Flexible Dielectric Acoustic Resonator Patch for Tissue Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A flexible dielectric acoustic resonator patch enables MHz‐range ultrasound generation through resonance amplification without using piezoelectric materials. Conformal integration on a curved substrate allows efficient acoustic delivery to tissue‐mimicking environments.

Single atom convolutional matching pursuit: Theoretical framework and application to Lamb waves based structural health monitoring [PDF]

open access: yes
Lamb Waves (LW) based Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) aims to monitor the health state of thin structures. An Initial Wave Packet (IWP) is sent in the structure and interacts with boundaries, discontinuities, and with eventual damages thus generating ...

LAMB WAVES: THEIR USE IN NONDESTRUCTIVE TESTING [PDF]

open access: yes, 1963
A series of experiments is described which is primarily concerned with establishing the usefulness of Lamb waves for the detection of small defects in thin plates and in small-diameter, thin-walled tubing.

Global Winds Shape Planetary‐Scale Lamb Waves

open access: yes, 2023
In 2022, the Hunga volcano eruption in Tonga generated atmospheric pressure waves that propagated globally and produced tsunamis in all the world's oceans.

Polymorph‐Specific Electronic Transduction in WO3 during Molecular Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Metal‐oxide polymorphs with similar surface chemistry can nevertheless exhibit distinct sensing properties. In γ‐ and ε‐WO3, analyte adsorption appears comparable; yet, only ε‐WO3 induces a pronounced lattice electronic perturbation that accommodates charge in sub‐conduction band minimum states.

Excitation of Lamb‐waves in plates [PDF]

open access: yesPAMM, 2006
AbstractLamb waves show great potential in the detection of structural defects in plate and shell structures. In the sense of the adaptive structures concept the wave generation takes place with help of integrated piezoelectric ceramics. For a steel plate with adhered piezoelectric actuator, analytical calculations, FEM simulations, and experimental ...

Transducers Across Scales and Frequencies: A System‐Level Framework for Multiphysics Integration and Co‐Design

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Transducers convert physical signals into electrical and optical representations, yet each mechanism is bounded by intrinsic trade‐offs across bandwidth, sensitivity, speed, and energy. This review maps transduction mechanisms across physical scale and frequency, showing how heterogeneous integration and multiphysics co‐design transform isolated ...

Damage Assessment of Polyamide-Based Woven Composites Using Multi-Directional Lamb Waves After Fatigue or Impact Loading [PDF]

open access: yes
This study presents a novel experimental methodology designed to assess damage in woven glass fibers reinforced polyamide 6,6/6 composites, specifically subjected to low-velocity impact and cyclic tensile loading.

A General Bayesian Framework for Ellipse-based and Hyperbola-based Damage Localisation in Anisotropic Composite Plates [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
This paper focuses on Bayesian Lamb wave-based damage localization in structural health monitoring of anisotropic composite materials. A Bayesian framework is applied to take account for uncertainties from experimental time-of-flight measurements and ...
