The representation of oneself in political-narrative discourses: from lambda to ethos

open access: yesSigno y Seña, 2018
In this article we analyze, from a polyphonic and non-referential perspective of enunciation (Ducrot 1984), a set of political-narrative discourses, that is, micronarration where the political speaker talks about himself in the recent past.

On the shifted Littlewood-Richardson coefficients and Littlewood-Richardson coefficients

open access: yes, 2020
We give a new interpretation of the shifted Littlewood-Richardson coefficients $f_{\lambda\mu}^\nu$ ($\lambda,\mu,\nu$ are strict partitions). The coefficients $g_{\lambda\mu}$ which appear in the decomposition of Schur $Q$-function $Q_\lambda$ into the ...

An Extensional Characterization of Lambda-Lifting and Lambda-Dropping

open access: yesBRICS Report Series, 1998
Lambda-lifting and lambda-dropping respectively transform a block-structured
functional program into recursive equations and vice versa.
Lambda-lifting was developed in the early 80's, whereas lambda-dropping
is more recent.

A Novel Approach on Rapid Alloy Development of Tool Steels for Laser Powder Bed Fusion by In Situ Alloying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A novel approach for alloy development in laser powder bed fusion is introduced. Instead of producing massive samples of one composition at a time, prepressed powder bed samples produced from powder mixtures are processed. Guidelines for the selection of precursor powders are developed.

Low‐Activation Compositionally Complex Alloys for Advanced Nuclear Applications—A Review

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐activation compositionally complex alloys (LACCAs) are advanced metallic materials primarily composed of low‐activation elements, offering advantages such as rapid compliance with operational standards and safe recyclability. This review highlights their potential for extreme high‐temperature irradiation environments as structural materials for ...

Estimation of the Occurrence and Significance of Noise Effects on Pedestrians Using Acoustic Variables Related to Sound Energy in Urban Environments

open access: yesApplied Sciences
The impact of environmental noise on the health and well-being of people living in cities is an issue that has been addressed in the scientific literature to try to develop effective environmental policies.

An Examination of Aerosol Jet‐Printed Surface Roughness and its Impact on the Performance of High‐Frequency Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study explores aerosol jet‐printed (AJP) surface roughness, its effects on the performance of microwave electronics, and its process contributors. First, an electromagnetic model is vetted for AJP's unique roughness signature. Simulations are built which show process‐induced roughness is as significant as conductor resistivity in driving microwave

Statistical Distributions of Morphologically Classified Defects in Metal Additive Manufacturing with Implications for Fatigue Life Prediction

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Morphological features of three defect types in metal additive manufacturing (AM)—lack of fusion, keyhole, and gas‐entrapped pores—are statistically characterized using best‐fit distributions evaluated via coefficient‐of‐determination, Kolmogorov–Smirnov test, and quantile–quantile plots.

Chasing Lambda

open access: yes, 2007
Recent astronomical observations of SNIa, CMB, as well as BAO in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey, suggest that the current Universe has entered a stage of an accelerated expansion with the transition redshift at $z \simeq 0.5$. While the simplest candidates to explain this fact is cosmological constant/vacuum energy, there exists a serious problem of ...
