Wing bone laminarity is not an adaptation for torsional resistance in bats [PDF]
Torsional loading is a common feature of skeletal biomechanics during vertebrate flight. The importance of resisting torsional loads is best illustrated by the convergence of wing bone structure (e.g., long with thin walls) across extant bats and birds ...

Application of a potential profile for controlling the beam laminarity in a magnetron injection gun [PDF]
In gyrotrons, magnetron injection gun(MIG)is a critical component, which must generate a high-quality electron beam with small velocity spread. With the increases in the current density and velocity pitch-factor α(the ratio of perpendicular to parallel ...

The effects of growth rate and biomechanical loading on bone laminarity within the emu skeleton [PDF]
The orientation of vascular canals in primary bone may reflect differences in growth rate and/or adaptation to biomechanical loads. Previous studies link specific canal orientations to bone growth rates, but results between different taxa are ...

We show that the output of systems with time-varying delay can exhibit a new kind of chaotic behavior characterized by laminar phases, which are periodically interrupted by irregular bursts. Within each laminar phase the output intensity remains almost constant, but its level varies chaotically from phase to phase.

Mathematical simulation of laminar-turbulent transition and the turbulence scale estimation
The laminar-turbulent transition, analyzed in this work represents a particular interest for various branches of science and engineering. From the practical point of view, the turbulence scale represents one of the most important problems.

Generalized laminar matroids [PDF]
Nested matroids were introduced by Crapo in 1965 and have appeared frequently in the literature since then. A flat of a matroid $M$ is Hamiltonian if it has a spanning circuit. A matroid $M$ is nested if and only if its Hamiltonian flats form a chain under inclusion; $M$ is laminar if and only if, for every $1$-element independent set $X$, the ...

Age-Related Changes in Standing Balance in Preschoolers Using Traditional and Nonlinear Methods
Considerable disagreement exists on the linearity of the development of standing balance in children. This study aimed to use different traditional and nonlinear methods to investigate age-related changes in standing balance in preschoolers.
