Land-cover density-based approach to urban land use mapping using high-resolution imagery
Chinese Geographical Science, 2005Nowadays, remote sensing imagery, especially with its high spatial resolution, has become an indispensable tool to provide timely up-gradation of urban land use and land cover information, which is a prerequisite for proper urban planning and management.

The advantages of a high density, mixed land use, linear urban development
Transportation, 1997This paper describes the land use and transport characteristics of a strip of urban development located along the northern shore of Hong Kong Island. The strip of land, with an area of 22.5 sq. km, is 17 km long and has an average width of 1.3 km. It has a population of approximately one million and provides over 700,000 jobs.

The Role of Urban Density and Land Use Planning in Keeping the Cities Healthy
2021A major driver in achieving healthy cities would be to consider a balanced urban density in cities, which could then be supported with adequate land use planning measures.

Two-Sector Nonmonocentric Urban Land-Use Model with Variable Density
Environment and Planning A: Economy and Space, 1988A two-sector nonmonocentric urban land-use model with variable firms density of business is presented in this paper. This is an extension of the work by Ogawa and Fujita (1978). In this model, households supply labor to firms, and firms pay wages to workers.

The Effect of Urban Land-Use Regulations on Density
2019Urban land is crucial to economic productivity and growth in cities, given substantial land intensive economic activity takes place. While land use regulations are needed for inclusive growth and to protect the urban poor, they create distortions in the land market, and become counter-productive. Indian cities are characterized by strong urban land use

Modeling the density variations of urban land uses with transportation network congestion
Journal of Urban Economics, 1986Abstract Perhaps the single most distinctive character of urban activity that distinguishes it from rural and regional activities is the intensive use of urban land. While the nature of density variations of urban land uses and their associated land rents are well understood, there have been few operational urban models that explicitly address the ...

Urban land use, sorting, and population density: A continuous logit model
Transportation Research Part B: Methodological, 2017Abstract This paper analyzes land use, sorting, and population density in a polycentric city. To this end, the paper develops a continuous spatial choice logit model of a closed polycentric city with multiple income classes and endogenous land use where households select their workplace and residence locations probabilistically.

Deer-vehicle collisions, deer density, and land use in Iowa's urban deer herd management zones
Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2010Many states are striving to keep their deer population to a sustainable and controllable level, while maximizing public safety. In Iowa, measures to control the deer population include annual deer hunts and special deer herd management plans in urban areas.

Exploring the Influence of Land Use Type and Population Density on Urban Heat Island Intensity
2018The urban heat island (UHI) phenomenon has gained increasing attention being an indicator of the anthropogenic activities’ effects on urban areas. Moreover, the establishment of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) for urban areas underscores the need to monitor the UHI phenomenon.

Review of Urban & Regional Development Studies, 2016
Efficiency in the provision of some large‐scale services motivates the administrative coordination of the urban functions at a more aggregate level. In Italy, the Metropolitan City (MC) has recently been introduced as an effective intermediate level between the region and the municipalities, to accommodate the integrated management of urban functions ...
