Spatial Variation in Road Pedestrian Casualties: The Role of Urban Scale, Density and Land-use Mix
Urban Studies, 2003This paper examines the role of urban scale, density and land-use mix on the incidence of road pedestrian casualties. It develops a spatial model at a disaggregate level that attempts to understand how the nature of the urban environment, with its associated traffic generation characteristics, affects the incidence of road pedestrian casualties.

Land-use change models grounded in complexity theory such as agent-based models (ABMs) are increasingly being used to examine evolving urban systems. The objective of this study is to develop a spatial model that simulates land-use change under the influence of human land-use choice behavior.

AbstractAims. While there is substantial evidence of an association between alcohol outlet density and assault, it is unlikely this association is constant across the urban environment. This study tested the moderating influence of land use on the outlet–violence association.Design.

Amid rapid urbanization, land use shifts in cities globally have profound effects on ecosystems and biodiversity. Birds, as a crucial component of urban biodiversity, are highly sensitive to environmental changes and often serve as indicator species for biodiversity.

Mixed use development, one of the “mantras in contemporary planning” is a multi-criterion and multi-scalar concept which has various definitions. For this research mixed-use is defined as functional mixed-use and our main interest is to understand the spatial conditions needed to increase the diversity of uses (mix) by combining compatible functions ...
