Feasibility of Reduced Lap‐Spliced Length in Polyethylene Fiber‐Reinforced Strain‐Hardening Cementitious Composite [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2018
This research investigates the interfacial behavior between polyethylene (PE) fiber‐reinforced strain‐hardening cement composite (PE‐SHCC) and reinforcing bars that are spliced in the tension region to determine feasibility of reduced lap‐spliced length in PE‐SHCC. Twenty test specimens were subjected to monotonic and cyclic tension loads.

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

Combined mechanical couplers and special-length-priority algorithm for reducing rebar consumption and cutting waste of beam reinforcement

open access: yesResults in Engineering
The surging demand for reinforced concrete buildings has led to excessive consumption of rebars, resulting in substantial rebar-cutting waste and greenhouse gas emissions. Various approaches have been explored to mitigate this issue, including lap-splice

Screening and epitope characterization of Nidogen‐2‐specific nanobodies

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Camel immunization and phage display were employed to generate high‐affinity VHH nanobodies against Nidogen‐2. After library construction, biopanning, ELISA screening, sequencing, and recombinant expression, selected nanobodies were purified and characterized, leading to the preliminary exploration of a nanobody‐based sandwich ELISA for specific ...

Inadequate Lap Length Improvement in Precast Concrete Beams Connections

open access: yesIOSR Journal of Mechanical and Civil Engineering, 2016
The motivation behind this research is to provide a method to improve the beam to beam connection of precast concrete with inadequate lap length. The methodology of this research divided into two Parts. In the first Part, the paper tests six beam to beam connections. This was considered the preliminary findings of the study.

Decreased cold‐sensing function of the transient receptor potential channel TRPM8 from tailed amphibians

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Despite frogs avoiding low temperatures, examination of four salamander species revealed that none avoided cold and all possessed cold tolerance. Functional analysis of TRPM8, a cold sensor, showed that all salamander TRPM8s had lost their cold sensitivity.

Optimization of Rebar Usage and Sustainability Based on Special-Length Priority: A Case Study of Mechanical Couplers in Diaphragm Walls [PDF]

open access: yes
The construction industry generates significant CO2 emissions and reinforcing bars (rebar), which are a major contributor to this environmental impact. Extensive research has been conducted to address this particular issue.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
