Endowing Flexibility of Alveolar Type II Cells to Recapitulate Development From Lung Bud to Alveoli

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Adult human alveolar type 2 cells are chemically reprogrammed into expandable alveolar progenitor‐like cells that acquire bud tip‐like features during expansion and form organoids that mature into alveolar‐like structures. These organoids model influenza A virus infection and innate immune responses in vitro, while transplanted cells engraft ...

Accuracy of circulating adiponectin for predicting gestational diabetes : a systematic review and meta-analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Aims/hypothesis Universal screening for gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) has not been implemented, and this has had substantial clinical implications. Biomarker-directed targeted screening might be feasible.

A Spatiotemporal Single‐Cell Atlas Uncovers Dysregulated ECM Dynamics and Septal Remodeling Arrest in Human Ventricular Septal Defects

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Integrating single‐cell and spatial transcriptomics reveals human ventricular septal defect (VSD) as a disease of microenvironmental insufficiency and structural remodeling arrest. Attenuated endothelial‐fibroblast crosstalk, alongside downregulated THBS1/TGF‐β1 and MMP2 signaling networks, impairs the endothelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EndoMT) and

Screening for gestational diabetes: evaluation of prevalence in age-stratified subgroups at Central hospital Warri Nigeria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Background: The prevalence of gestational diabetes depends on the method of diagnosis as well as ethnic background. Maternal age has also been identified as a factor, but has not been given much attention.

Structural Control of Stromal‐Immune Coupling by COL24A1 Underlies Pregnancy Maintenance

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
COL24A1 emerges as a collagen‐associated regulator of maternal‐fetal interface homeostasis. Its deficiency promotes a maladaptive TIMP1‐high stromal state, impaired ECM turnover, collagen accumulation, and stromal–immune dysregulation, contributing to pregnancy loss.

Offspring birth weight, gestational age and maternal characteristics in relation to glucose status at age 53 years: evidence from a national birth cohort. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
AIMS: We investigated pathways linking offspring birth weight to maternal diabetes risk in later life by taking into account a range of prospective early-life and adult maternal factors.

Maternal Hyperglycemia Disrupts Cerebral Cortex Development Through the Foxp1‐Dll1‐Notch Axis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Maternal hyperglycemia disrupts offspring cortical development through a Foxp1–Dll1–Notch signaling axis. In a PGDM mouse model, intrauterine hyperglycemia decreases cortical thickness and perturbs neuronal layering by downregulating Foxp1, which transcriptionally regulates the Notch ligand Dll1.

The timing of 40% oral dextrose gel administration after birth does not influence the incidence of hypoglycemia in at-risk infants

open access: yesGlobal Pediatrics
Background: Hypoglycemia is the most common metabolic disorder seen in newborns and can cause long-term neurological damage, developmental disorders and poor later school performance.
