Asymmetric large mode area fibres
2017 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics Pacific Rim (CLEO-PR), 2017Asymmetric core is an alternative approach for mode scalability and better heat dissipation, thus being expected for suppressed mode instability. This talk will present stretched core fibres in aspects of its mode area scalability and mode instability.

2007 Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics (CLEO), 2007
We review the performance and applications of a recently demonstrated platform that utilises higher-order modes in few-moded fibers to facilitate robust, bend-resistant, long-length light-propagation in ultra-large modal areas.

Very-large-mode-area, single-mode multicore fiber
Optics Letters, 2009A single-mode evanescently coupled multicore fiber consisting of 19 hexagonally arranged cores is investigated. Theoretical and experimental results are presented and compared to an equivalent hypothetical step-index fiber. A fundamental mode with an effective area of 465 microm(2) and a beam propagation factor M(2) of 1.02 was measured, showing the ...

Filamentation analysis in large-mode-area fiber lasers
Journal of the Optical Society of America B, 2006We drive an analytic expression for filament gain in fiber lasers due to self focusing. The filamentation process has two thresholds that must be met, with beam-quality degradation occurring for peak powers above a megawatt.

Highly dispersive large mode area photonic bandgap fiber
Optics Letters, 2007An all-silica photonic bandgap fiber composed of a low-index core surrounded by alternating high- and low-index rings allows us to achieve a large mode area (500 microm(2)) and large chromatic dispersion. Sharp resonances from the even Bragg mode to odd ring modes theoretically lead to 20,000 ps/(nm km) chromatic dispersion when large bends are applied.

Photodarkening measurements in large mode area fibers
SPIE Proceedings, 2007Yb-doped fibers are widely used in applications requiring high average output powers and high power pulse amplification. Photodarkening is one limiting factor in these fibers. In this paper, characterization of photodarkening in large-mode-area (LMA) fibers is presented building upon our previous work, which indicated that meaningful comparison of ...

Very Large Mode Area Pixelated Bragg Fibers
Workshop on Specialty Optical Fibers and Their Applications, 2015Generalized half-wave-stack condition combined with well-chosen hetero-structured cladding is used to design and realize scalable single-mode pixelated Bragg fibers with mode field diameter as large as 60 μm.

Large mode area photonic crystal fibre laser
Technical Digest. Summaries of papers presented at the Conference on Lasers and Electro-Optics. Postconference Technical Digest (IEEE Cat. No.01CH37170), 2001Summary form only given. Fibre lasers have attracted much interest in recent years. Ytterbium-doped silica fibres in particular are capable of high efficiency and may be pumped directly by diode lasers at 915 or 980 nm. However at high power the intensity within the core of an optical fibre becomes very large and this can give rise to optical ...

Ultra large mode area pixelated Bragg fiber
SPIE Proceedings, 2016We report on the design and the fabrication of a new design of an all-solid Bragg fiber based on the pixelization and heterostructuration of a cladding made of only two high index rings. The thickness of the low index ring as well as the geometry of the heterostructuration (its symmetry and the number of removed pixels) have been chosen to maximize the
