Characteristics of Collimators Based on the Large-Mode-Area CMCF for Coupling Laser Beam
A new collimator based on a homemade concentric multilayer-core fiber (CMCF) is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. This collimator was fabricated using a tail fiber with large mode area and single-mode operation.

Sub-80 fs dissipative soliton large-mode-area fiber laser [PDF]
We report on high-energy ultrashort pulse generation from an all-normal-dispersion large-mode-area fiber laser by exploiting an efficient combination of nonlinear polarization evolution (NPE) and a semiconductor-based saturable absorber mode-locking mechanism.

Predicting macrobending loss for large-mode area photonic crystal fibers
We report on an easy-to-evaluate expression for the prediction of the bend-loss for a large mode area photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with a triangular air-hole lattice. The expression is based on a recently proposed formulation of the V-parameter for a PCF

Single-mode regime in large-mode-area rare-earth-doped rod-type PCFs [PDF]
In this paper, large-mode-area, double-cladding, rare-earth-doped photonic crystal fibers are investigated in order to understand how the refractive index distribution and the mode competition given by the amplification can assure singlemode propagation.

Passive Mode-Locked Operation of Large Mode Area Fibre Lasers [PDF]
Recently much work on fibre lasers has concentrated on improving the maximum output energy and peak powers available from such systems. An important recent advance in this area has been the development of single transverse-mode, large mode area (LMA-) doped fibre1.

Birefringence analysis of multilayer leaky cladding optical fibre [PDF]
We analyse a multilayer leaky cladding (MLC) fibre using the finite element method and study the effect of the MLC on the bending loss and birefringence of two types of structures: (i) a circular core large-mode-area structure and (ii) an elliptical ...

Design and Fabrication of Single Transverse Mode Passive Large-Pitch Fibers
The fabrication processes of single transverse mode passive large-pitch optical fiber (LPF) have been proposed and investigated. The LPF design, combined with the fundamental mode operating principle of delocalizing higher-order modes, has led to ...

158µJ pulses from a single transverse mode, large mode-area EDFA
We report the amplification of 10pJ-100pJ, semiconductor diode pulses up to an energy of 158µJ and peak powers >100kW in a multi-stage fibre amplifier chain based on a single-mode, large mode-area erbium doped amplifier design. These results represent

Bend-resistant octo-wing silica segmented cladding fiber with high index rings
We have proposed a novel segmented cladding fiber (SCF) design and the bending effects were investigated in detail. The proposed SCF with large mode area properties has a uniform circular core and octo-wings of rods with higher refractive index than the ...

The radiated fields of the fundamental mode of photonic crystal fibers [PDF]
The six-fold rotational symmetry of photonic crystal fibers has important manifestations in the radiated fields in terms of i) a focusing phenomena at a finite distance from the end-facet and ii) the formation of low-intensity satellite peaks in the ...
