Large mode area waveguide based high-energy passively Q-switched laser in silicon photonics [PDF]
We demonstrate high energy Q-switched pulse generation with the help of a large mode area gain waveguide in a silicon photonics device. Output pulse energy >150 nJ and laser slope efficiency of 40% is shown.

We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Large-mode-area fibers operating near single-mode regime
Lower NA in large-mode-area fibers enables better single-mode operation and larger core diameters. Fiber NA has traditionally been limited to 0.06, mostly due to the control tolerance in the fabrication process. It has been recognized recently that transverse mode instability is a major limit to average power scaling in fiber lasers.
