A finite element characterization of a commercial endlessly single-mode photonic crystal fiber: is it really single mode? [PDF]
One of interesting properties of photonic crystal fibers (PCFs) is their possibility to be single-moded over a wide wavelength range, down to UV, while still having a reasonably large modal profile.

Visual Recovery Reflects Cortical MeCP2 Sensitivity in Rett Syndrome
ABSTRACT Objective Rett syndrome (RTT) is a devastating neurodevelopmental disorder with developmental regression affecting motor, sensory, and cognitive functions. Sensory disruptions contribute to the complex behavioral and cognitive difficulties and represent an important target for therapeutic interventions.

Mode-adaptive control of a kilowatt-level large-mode-area fiber laser based on 5×1 photonic lantern
This study presents high-power mode-selective operation in a large-mode-area (LMA) fiber laser. A spatial mode-adaptive control system incorporating a 5×1 photonic lantern was employed to facilitate mode conversion between the LP01 and LP11 modes.

Bendable large-mode-area fiber with a non-circular core [PDF]
We investigate mode-area-scaling and bending performances of a Yb-doped large-mode-area fiber with an elongated non-circular core. Such fiber can be bent in the plane of its short axis to suppress bending effects, such as mode area reduction and mode profile distortion.

Reduced Muscular Carnosine in Proximal Myotonic Myopathy—A Pilot 1H‐MRS Study
ABSTRACT Objective Myotonic dystrophy type 2 (proximal myotonic myopathy, PROMM) is a progressive multisystem disorder with muscular symptoms (proximal weakness, pain, myotonia) and systemic manifestations such as diabetes mellitus, cataracts, and cardiac arrhythmias.

Single Trench Fiber-Enabled High-Power Fiber Laser
As a novel design of large-mode-area fiber, the single trench fiber (STF) providing high higher-order-mode suppression with a large mode area for the fundamental mode shows potential for high-power and high-brightness applications.

ABSTRACT Objective To determine the concentration of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and plasma in Alexander disease (AxD) and whether GFAP levels are predictive of disease phenotypes. Methods CSF and plasma were collected (longitudinally when available) from AxD participants and non‐AxD controls.

Three-color femtosecond source for simultaneous excitation of three fluorescent proteins in two-photon fluorescence microscopy [PDF]
We demonstrate a fiber-based, three-color femtosecond source for simultaneous imaging of three fluorescent proteins (FPs) using two-photon fluorescence microscopy (2PM).
