Abstract The middle Permian represents a critical interval in therapsid evolution, when gorgonopsians emerged as some of the first specialized apex predators within terrestrial ecosystems. Despite their significance, the early diversification of Gorgonopsia in Gondwana remains poorly understood due to scarcity and fragmentary material.

Conservation management of large carnivores in Africa
The conservation management of large carnivores in Africa is reviewed. In large protected areas the complexity of the relations between predators and prey, and between competing predators, indicate that these relationships should not be disturbed, even ...

Ecological correlates of large carnivore depredation on sheep in Europe
Sharing space with large carnivores on a human-dominated continent like Europe results in multiple conflictful interactions with human interests, of which depredation on livestock is the most widespread. We conducted an analysis of the impact by all four

Managing conflict between large carnivores and livestock
Large carnivores are persecuted globally because they threaten human industries and livelihoods. How this conflict is managed has consequences for the conservation of large carnivores and biodiversity more broadly.

Evaluating Attitudes towards Large Carnivores within the Great Bear Rainforest
Cohabitation between humans and carnivores is vital to the continued existence and integrity of ecosystems, often playing a large role in the success of large carnivore conservation.

Abstract The Dasyurid species Sarcophilus harrisii, Dasyurus maculatus, and Dasyurus viverrinus, occupying diverse ecological niches and forming a guild structure in Tasmania, provide a basis for examining the roles of various forelimb muscle groups in prey capture and locomotion.

Tracing the evolutionary history of the morpho‐anatomy of baculum in primates
Abstract Animal morphology reflects both evolutionary history and present‐day adaptation. Male mammal copulatory structures such as the baculum (penile bone) are ideal for studying these processes because of their complexity and high interspecific variability. In primates, however, research has focused mostly on baculum length.

Saving large carnivores, but losing the apex predator? [PDF]
Large terrestrial carnivores, e.g. wolves or bears, often play a key ecological role from their position at the apex of trophic systems. Changes to their populations reverberate through ecological communities; consequently their widespread decline in ...

Abstract Despite the distinctly different shapes of their tongues, the tongue gross anatomy of Saimaa ringed seal closely resembled that of Baltic ringed seal. There were no differences in the extrinsic and intrinsic tongue muscles or their associated vascularization and innervation between Saimaa and Baltic ringed seals.
