The Aging Blood: Cellular Origins, Circulating Drivers, and Therapeutic Potential

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
As a conduit linking all organs, the blood system both reflects and actively drives systemic aging. This review highlights how circulating pro‐aging and antiaging factors and age‐associated hematopoietic stem cell dysfunction contribute to immunosenescence and multi‐organ decline, positioning the hematopoietic system as a target for aging intervention.

The Relationship Between Inflammation and Central Nervous System in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Multiple sclerosis is an autoimmune demyelination disease that is seen especially in the young population and has a progressive course, causing motor, sensory, and cognitive deficits. In the literature, the pathogenesis of MS disease and the interconnection between the immune and central nervous system in the disease have not been fully ...

Numerical simulation of complete instability process of shield tunnel excavation face based on SPH method

open access: yesYantu gongcheng xuebao
Given the limitations of traditional grid-based numerical methods in simulating large deformation problems of geotechnical materials, this paper applies a meshless numerical method—Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH)—to a full process simulation of ...

Multi-field modelling and simulation of large deformation ductile fracture [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
In the present contribution we focus on a phase-field approach to ductile fracture applied to large deformation contact problems. Phase-field approaches to fracture allow for an efficient numerical investigation of complex three-dimensional fracture problems,

Loop-deformed Poincar\'e algebra

open access: yes, 2013
In this essay we present evidence suggesting that loop quantum gravity leads to deformation of the local Poincar\'e algebra within the limit of high energies.

Lessons Learned: Quality Analysis of Optical Coherence Tomography in Neuromyelitis Optica

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Optical coherence tomography (OCT)‐derived retina measurements are markers for neuroaxonal visual pathway status. High‐quality OCT scans are essential for reliable measurements, but their acquisition is particularly challenging in eyes with severe visual impairment, as often observed in neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders ...

Estimation of Strain-Softening Parameters of Marine Clay Using the Initial T-Bar Penetration Test

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
T-bar penetrometers have been widely used to measure strength parameters of marine clay in laboratory and in situ tests. However, using the deep resistance factor derived from full-flow conditions to evaluate the undrained shear strength of shallow clay ...

Large D holography with metric deformations [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
Abstract We consider Einstein gravity in AdS in the presence of a deformed conformal boundary metric, in the limit of large spacetime dimension. At leading order we find a new set of effective near-horizon equations. These can be understood as covariant generalisations of the undeformed equations with new source terms due to the ...

Network Localization of Fatigue in Multiple Sclerosis

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Fatigue is among the most common symptoms and one of the main factors determining the quality of life in multiple sclerosis (MS). However, the neurobiological mechanisms underlying fatigue are not fully understood. Here we studied lesion locations and their connections in individuals with MS, aiming to identify brain networks ...

Oscillatory athermal quasi-static deformation of a model glass

open access: yes, 2013
We report computer simulations of oscillatory athermal quasi-static shear deformation of dense amorphous samples of a three dimensional model glass former. A dynamical transition is observed as the amplitude of the deformation is varied: for large values
