Large-scale ensemble averaging of ambulatory impedance cardiograms [PDF]
Impedance cardiography has been used increasingly to measure human physiological responses to emotional and mentally engaging stimuli. The validity of large-scale ensemble averaging of ambulatory impedance cardiograms was evaluated for preejection period (PEP), interbeat interval, and dZ/dt(min) amplitude.

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...

Improving particle filter performance by smoothing observations
This article shows that increasing the observation variance at small scales can reduce the ensemble size required to avoid collapse in particle filtering of spatially-extended dynamics and improve the resulting uncertainty quantification at large scales.

Large-scale protein function prediction using heterogeneous ensembles [PDF]
Heterogeneous ensembles are an effective approach in scenarios where the ideal data type and/or individual predictor are unclear for a given problem. These ensembles have shown promise for protein function prediction (PFP), but their ability to improve PFP at a large scale is unclear.

Participation Ratio for Constraint-Driven Condensation with Superextensive Mass
Broadly distributed random variables with a power-law distribution f ( m ) ∼ m - ( 1 + α ) are known to generate condensation effects. This means that, when the exponent α lies in a certain interval, the largest variable in a sum of N

Analyzing Electronic Excitations and Exciton Binding Energies in Y6 Films
The Y6 molecule is used for increasing the efficiency of organic solar cells. The exciton binding energy is calculated for ensembles of Y6 molecules that are representative of the typically used films. The calculations show that the excitons typically spread out over many molecules.

FastEnsemble: Scalable ensemble clustering on large networks
Many community detection algorithms are inherently stochastic, leading to variations in their output depending on input parameters and random seeds. This variability makes the results of a single run of these algorithms less reliable. Moreover, different clustering algorithms, optimization criteria (e.g., modularity and the Constant Potts model), and ...

Fast‐Responding O2 Gas Sensor Based on Luminescent Europium Metal‐Organic Frameworks (MOF‐76)
Luminescent MOF‐76 materials based on Eu(III) and mixed Eu(III)/Y(III) show rapid and reversible changes in emission intensity in response to O2 with very short response times. The effect is based on triplet quenching of the linker ligands that act as photosensitizers. Average emission lifetimes of a few milliseconds turn out to be mostly unaffected by
