Large and small sets with respect to homomorphisms and products of groups

open access: yesApplied General Topology, 2002
We study the behaviour of large, small and medium subsets with respect to homomorphisms and products of groups. Then we introduce the definition af a P-small set in abelian groups and we investigate the relations between this kind of smallness and the ...

Human large-scale cooperation as a product of competition between cultural groups

open access: yesNature Communications, 2020
The authors here show that readiness to cooperate between individuals from different groups corresponds to the degree of cultural similarity between those groups.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

BLENDED LEARNING FACILITATION OF INDIVIDUAL LEARNING PROCESSES IN LARGE GROUPS

open access: yesJournal of Industrial Design and Engineering Graphics, 2010
By supplying various combinations of advanced instructions and different forms of exercises individual learning processes within the impartation of basic knowledge can be activated and supported at best.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Qualitative Analysis of Collaborative Learning Groups in Large Enrollment Introductory Astronomy

open access: yes, 2000
Large-lecture introductory astronomy courses for undergraduate, non-science majors present numerous problems for faculty. As part of a systematic effort to improve the course learning environment, a series of small-group, collaborative learning ...

Semiparametric estimation of shifts on compact Lie groups for image registration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper we focus on estimating the deformations that may exist between similar images in the presence of additive noise when a reference template is unknown. The deformations aremodeled as parameters lying in a finite dimensional compact Lie group.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

BODY LANGUAGE IS OF PARTICULAR IMPORTANCE IN LARGE GROUPS [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Meetings can be an effective tool for communication, unification and complex problem solving, but often deteriorate and become improductive. In this note I apply scaling arguments to communication in meetings and suggest that as meetings get larger, it ...

Asymptotically CAT(0) Groups

open access: yes
We develop a general theory for asymptotically CAT(0) groups; these are groups acting geometrically on a geodesic space, all of whose asymptotic cones are CAT(0)
