Effective Area Limit for Large Mode Area Laser Fibers

OFC/NFOEC 2008 - 2008 Conference on Optical Fiber Communication/National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference, 2008
We analyze practical constraints of fibers designs for achieving large mode area and single mode operation for fiber lasers, and provide estimated upper limits for the core diameter and effective area.

Femtosecond Bragg grating inscription in an Yb-doped large-mode-area multicore fiber for high-power laser applications.

Optics Letters, 2020
We demonstrate a direct inscription of a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) in the active cores of an Yb-doped large mode area multicore fiber (MCF). An ultrashort pulsed laser is used to inscribe the FBG simultaneously in all six cores.

Highly dispersive large mode area photonic bandgap fiber

Optics Letters, 2007
An all-silica photonic bandgap fiber composed of a low-index core surrounded by alternating high- and low-index rings allows us to achieve a large mode area (500 microm(2)) and large chromatic dispersion. Sharp resonances from the even Bragg mode to odd ring modes theoretically lead to 20,000 ps/(nm km) chromatic dispersion when large bends are applied.

Birefringent large-mode-area anti-resonant hollow core fiber in the 1.9  µm wavelength window.

Optics Letters, 2020
We report on the development and characterization of a birefringent large-mode-area anti-resonant silica fiber. The fiber structure is composed of six non-touching capillaries.

Demonstration of bend-induced nonlinearities in large-mode-area fibers

Optics Letters, 2007
We present what we believe to be the first direct measurements of enhanced nonlinearities in large-mode-area fibers due to bend induced reductions in effective area. Both Raman scattering and self-phase modulation are observed to increase in tightly coiled fibers.

High absorption large-mode area step-index fiber for tandem-pumped high-brightness high-power lasers

, 2020
A short absorption length ytterbium (Yb)-doped large-mode area (LMA) fiber is presented as a step forward to mitigate the stern problem of nonlinear scatterings in a tandem pumping scheme adopted for high-power fiber laser.

Large-mode-area optical fiber for photonic nanojet generation

Optics Letters, 2019
The photonic nanojet (PNJ) generated by a shaped optical fiber tip is an attractive technology for laser micro-machining. The working distance has the same order of size as the fiber core diameter; therefore, multimode (MM) fibers are generally preferred.

Mode Selection in Large-Mode-Area Step-Index Multicore Fiber Laser and Amplifier

IEEE Photonics Technology Letters, 2020
We present mode-selection in a laser and an amplifier from a multicore Ytterbium (Yb) doped step-index fiber with six large mode area and low numerical aperture (NA) cores, fabricated using a combination of chelate delivery system (CDS) and stack and ...

Numerical analysis of large mode area segmented cladding fibers

2013 22nd Wireless and Optical Communication Conference, 2013
We analyze numerically the dependence of segmented cladding fibers (SCF) characters, including the effective V-number, the effective fundamental mode area and the permissible bending radius of fundamental mode, on the structure parameters of the fiber and the signal wavelength with the methods of radial effective index and transmission matrix.
