In this paper, a novel bend-resistant large mode area fiber with pixelated trench-assisted segmented cladding is proposed and investigated. This structure has large mode area and excellent higher order modes (HOMs) suppression.

Propagation of femtosecond pulses in large-mode-area, higher-order-mode fiber

We demonstrate propagation of 14 nJ femtosecond pulses through a large-mode-area, higher-order-mode (HOM) fiber with an effective area of 2100 microm2. Intuitive modeling of bend distortion in large-mode-area fibers

Bend distortion is emerging as an important consideration in the design of amplifier fibers with a large mode area, in addition to bend loss and mode-coupling effects. Simple, intuitive estimates of distortion sensitivity are presented for two interesting classes of fibers, in agreement with full numerical simulations.
