Sparse modeling of categorial explanatory variables [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Shrinking methods in regression analysis are usually designed for metric predictors. In this article, however, shrinkage methods for categorial predictors are proposed. As an application we consider data from the Munich rent standard, where, for example,

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

C-terminal phosphorylation of NaV1.5 impairs FGF13-dependent regulation of channel inactivation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
International audienceVoltage-gated Na(+) (NaV) channels are key regulators of myocardial excitability, and Ca(2+)/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase II (CaMKII)-dependent alterations in NaV1.5 channel inactivation are emerging as a critical determinant

Whole‐Body Pattern of Muscle Degeneration and Progression in Sarcoglycanopathies

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To characterize whole‐body intramuscular fat distribution pattern in patients with sarcoglycanopathies and explore correlations with disease severity, duration and age at onset. Methods Retrospective, cross‐sectional, multicentric study enrolling patients with variants in one of the four sarcoglycan genes who underwent whole‐body ...

Regularization of Case-Specific Parameters for Robustness and Efficiency

open access: yes, 2012
Regularization methods allow one to handle a variety of inferential problems where there are more covariates than cases. This allows one to consider a potentially enormous number of covariates for a problem.

LARS Artificial Ligament Versus ABC Purely Polyester Ligament for Anterior Cruciate Ligament Reconstruction

open access: yesOrthopaedic Journal of Sports Medicine, 2016
Background: Graft choice for anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction is of critical importance. Various grafts have been used so far, with autografts long considered the optimal solution for the treatment of ACL-deficient knees.

Reperfusion‐Dependent Outcomes After Endovascular Thrombectomy Stratified by NIHSS‐ASPECTS Clinical‐Core Mismatch

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective This analysis evaluates the effect of successful reperfusion on functional outcomes after MT, stratified by admission National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) and Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) as surrogates for clinical‐core mismatch, using multicenter registry data.
