Vectors and Vector‐Borne Diseases: Biology, Epidemiology and Integrated Control Strategies

open access: yesJournal of Applied Entomology, Volume 150, Issue 7, Page 990-1015, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Vector‐Borne Diseases (VBDs), transmitted by arthropods such as mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and sandflies, represent a significant threat to global health. These diseases can be caused by a variety of pathogens, including bacteria, viruses, protozoa, and helminths.

Mosquitoes Larvicidal Activity of Ocimum kilimandscharicum Oil Formulation under Laboratory and Field-Simulated Conditions

open access: yesInsects, 2022
Mosquitoes are vectors of many severe diseases, including malaria, yellow as well as dengue fever, and lymphatic filariasis. The use of synthetic chemical insecticides for mosquito control has been associated with resistance development and detrimental ...

The Trichinella Super‐Pangenome Reveals the Evolution of Encapsulation and Predicted Host–Parasite Protein Interactions

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 37, 3 July 2026.
ABSTRACT The muscle capsule of Trichinella is a critical structure that impedes immune attacks and drug penetration, yet the molecular mechanisms underlying its formation remain poorly understood. Using a high‐quality super‐pangenome comprising 12 Trichinella species, we compared extensive genomic variations between encapsulating and non‐encapsulating ...

Derris (Lonchocarpus) urucu (Leguminosae) Extract Modifies the Peritrophic Matrix Structure of Aedes aegypti (Diptera:Culicidae)

open access: yesMemorias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz, 2002
Aqueous suspension of ethanol extracts of Derris (Lonchocarpus) urucu (Leguminosae), collected in the state of Amazonas, Brazil, were tested for larvicidal activity against the mosquito Aedes aegypti (Diptera:Culicidae).

Effects of Kathon, a Chemical Used Widely as a Microbicide, on the Survival of Two Species of Mosquitoes

open access: yesMolecules, 2021
In recent decades, demands for novel insecticides against mosquitoes are soaring, yet candidate chemicals with desirable properties are limited. Kathon is a broad-spectrum isothiazolinone microbicide, but other applications remain uncharacterized. First,

Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Properties of Piper spp. Volatile Oils That Inhibit Pathogenic Microorganisms

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, Volume 41, Issue 4, Page 935-942, July 2026.
The samples were fungicidal against Candida, with MICs ranging from 62.5 to 250 μg/mL, and fungistatic against Penicillium adametzii, Aspergillus flavus and A. niger, with MICs of 1000 μg/mL. The volatile oils of Piper aduncum and Piper marginatum reduced the viability of MDA‐MB231 cells.

Effectiveness of Diflubenzuron in the control of houseflies [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vector Borne Diseases, 2010
Background & objectives: Houseflies are one of the major pest problems worldwide. The currenthousefly control strategy in the country hinges on the use of Dichlorvos as a housefly larvicide andpyrethrum spray in kitchens/dining areas.

The Evolution of Knockdown Resistance: Genotypic and Phenotypic Insights Into Aedes aegypti Insecticide Resistance

open access: yesEvolutionary Applications, Volume 19, Issue 7, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Insecticide resistance is a significant challenge for mosquito population control and disease prevention. This research investigated knockdown resistance (kdr) mutations V410L, V1016I, and F1534C in Aedes aegypti mosquitoes to address crucial gaps in understanding insecticide resistance evolution and management.

Climatic, Socioecological and Environmental Determinants of Aedes spp. Dynamics at the Community Interface: A Systematic Review With Reflections From a One Health Perspective

open access: yesTropical Medicine &International Health, Volume 31, Issue 7, Page 807-821, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Objectives Mosquitoes of the genus Aedes, including but not limited to Aedes aegypti , are major vectors of arboviruses such as dengue, Zika and other related diseases. Their global expansion is driven by climate change, globalisation, urbanisation and human mobility.

Addressing Climate Driven Vector‐Borne Disease in West Africa

open access: yesHealth Science Reports, Volume 9, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Introduction Vector‐borne diseases (VBDs) pose a significant public health threat in West Africa, contributing to substantial morbidity and mortality, particularly among vulnerable populations. This region is highly susceptible to the effects of climate change due to its geographical location, dependence on rain‐fed agriculture, and fragile ...
