Botanicals as Mosquito Larvicides

open access: yesDefence Science Journal, 2006
Methanol extracts of 19 indigenous plants were evaluated as mosquito larvicide. Among these, pericarp of Zanthoxylum limonella was found to have the most promising larvicidal properties against Aedes(s) albopictus and Culex quinquefasciatus with LC 90 values at 0.47 ppm and 0.73 ppm, respectively.

Dietary Specialisation Shapes Gut Bacterial Diversity in Dung Beetles: Insights From Coprophagy to Millipede Carnivory

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 18, Issue 2, April 2026.
Dung beetles feed on various food sources that are rich in microbial life. Here, we describe how the diets of seven dung beetle species, specialising in coprophagy, necrophagy, detritophagy, fungivory and carnivory influence their gut bacterial structure and diversity.

Biocidal potential of Eugenia pyriformis essential oil in the control of Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus in the free-living cycle [PDF]

open access: yesPesquisa Veterinária Brasileira, 2019
: Brazil has one of the largest commercial cattle herds in the world, which naturally coexist with an enormous number of parasitic species. Southern cattle tick, Rhipicephalus (Boophilus) microplus, is among these species, interfering with animal ...

Clashing in Murky Waters: On Amphibian Mosquito Suppression

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 3, March 2026.
This study compares the predator efficiency of common European amphibian species to common invertebrate mosquito predators. Focusing on the cosmopolitan mosquito Culex pipiens, known for transmitting pathogens like West Nile virus, we assessed predator rates, sex‐specific efficiency in amphibians, and the impact of predator presence on mosquito ...

Evaluation of pirimiphos-methyl (50% EC) against the immatures of Anopheles stephensi/An. culicifacies (malaria vectors) and Culex quinquefasciatus (vector of bancroftian filariasis) [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Vector Borne Diseases, 2004
Background & objectives : In India, temephos and fenthion are used as larvicides in fresh andpolluted waters. Since use of same insecticide may precipitate resistant, as an alternative bioefficacyof pirimiphos-methyl—an organophosphorus insecticide was ...

Bioactivity of Carica papaya (Caricaceae) against Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

open access: yesMolecules, 2011
The composition of a chloroform seed extract of C. papaya was determined by GC-MS. Nineteen compounds were identified, with oleic (45.97%), palmitic (24.1%) and stearic (8.52%) acids being the main components.

Integrated In Silico, In Vivo, and Deep Learning Approaches in the Discovery of Novel Candidate Molecules for Aedes aegypti Control

open access: yesArchives of Insect Biochemistry and Physiology, Volume 121, Issue 2, February 2026.
An integrated computational/experimental workflow was used to identify new candidate molecules for Aedes aegypti control. Docking of 1,070 chalcones against mJHBP, followed by in vivo assays, identified 4′‐chloro‐4‐methoxychalcone (2c) as the most active larvicide candidate.
