Radiotherapy for laryngeal cancers
Cancer/Radiothérapie, 2022We present the update of the recommendations of the French society of oncological radiotherapy on radiotherapy of laryngeal cancers. Intensity modulated radiotherapy is the standard of care radiotherapy for the management of laryngeal cancers. Early stage T1 or T2 tumours can be treated either by radiotherapy or conservative surgery.

Laryngeal Zoster Mimicking a Laryngeal Cancer
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 2005Herpes zoster is a viral cutaneous eruption caused by varicella-zoster virus (VZV) infection. Clinically, herpes zoster appears as a unilateral cluster of vesicular lesions with surrounding erythema in the dermatomal distribution of 1 or more adjacent sensory nerves.

The smoking habits of 109 male patients with laryngeal cancer were analysed. Two-thirds were heavy smokers. There was one non-smoker. In 12 cases, stopping smoking did not prevent the onset of cancer. Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor.

AbstractPrevious studies of laryngeal cancer have shown a decrease in the male‐to‐female ratio and that the sex ratio in glottic tumors is higher than that for other laryngeal sites. The purpose of this study was to characterize and identify changes in the demographics, laryngeal site predilection, geographic distribution, trends in tumor stage at ...

A 10-year material of laryngeal carcinomas was studied retrospectively. The chest X-rays were examined for pleural plaques (PP), which are a reliable sign of earlier asbestos exposure. In 14 of 156 available chest X-rays typical PP were found; a significantly higher incidence than expected in the region (p < 0.001), but in agreement with earlier ...

The Treatment of Laryngeal Cancer
Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinics of North America, 2019Successful management of laryngeal cancer depends on careful pretreatment evaluation of patient and disease factors to arrive at accurate staging, leading to appropriate treatment selection for patients with this highly impacting disease. Surgical modalities, including transoral laser microsurgery, open partial laryngectomy, and total laryngectomy ...

Ultrasonography in laryngeal cancers
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1993AbstractEndolaryngeal spread of laryngeal malignant tumours is usually determined by conventional endoscopy; however, it can not measure the outward extension of the tumour. As an alternative method for assessing the extension of a tumour and detecting metastatic lymph nodes, we have introduced high-resolution ultrasonography (US) in 34 patients with ...

Nutrition and laryngeal cancer
Cancer Causes and Control, 1996The main etiologic factors of cancers of the larynx and hypopharynx are alcohol and tobacco, and their prevalence in different populations explains, to a large extent, the wide variations in incidence observed around the world. Besides these two main risk factors, however, diet also seems to play a role in determining the risk of these cancers.

Seminars in Ultrasound, CT and MRI, 1998
CT and MRI are the main modalities for examination of laryngeal pathology. Generally, MRI seems to be the optimal method of examination in cooperative patients, especially for evaluation of their larynx before an attempted partial laryngectomy. The choice between the two modalities will also be determined by one's experience with these modalities.
